Prejmer Fortified Church
15km From Brasov, in the middle of the Prejmer village sits one of the most impressive saxon fortified churches of south eastern Transilvania.
At 3m thick, the walls around the church are among the thickest of the fortified churches of the region. The fortified churches of Transilvania were built as refuge against mongol, ottoman and other foreign invasions that were frequent in this part of Europe during the Middle Age.
On the inner side of the walls surrounding the church, stacked on four levels, there are many small rooms. Each family in the village used to have one room, and used it for food storage and as refuge during the invasions.
