Lee Bottom Fly In, September 2008

Trip to EAA AirVenture

Along with four friends of ours, we took a whirlwind 48-hour trip to the Oshkosh EAA AirVenture airshow. We left Louisville at 11:30pm on Friday night, and returned to Louisville at 5:00am on Monday morning. It was an eight-hour drive each way. The weather was perfect for camping! The airshow was spectacular - the best we've ever seen! We enjoyed spending time with missionary pilots from many different "missions" (MAF, JAARS, NTM) and learning about what God is doing through them, and more about what we can be doing to prepare to join them in their efforts some day. Flight in the Seabee

My Dad graciously arranged for us to have a flight in a Republic Seabee seaplane. The pilot/owner, Miller Monarch, flew into Bowman Field in Louisville from Hardinsburg, KY. We flew for about an hour, doing two water landings on the Ohio River! It was quite an experience, and I think that I've added the seaplane rating to my list of eventual pilot accomplishments. I'll never forget the jetskis racing us during our takeoff run. We had one off of each wingtip. They kept up with us until just before takeoff, when we finally outran them. The aircraft is very historic -- it is 60 years old this year, and there were just over 1,000 of them made in the late 1940's. Enjoy the pictures!

Mission Trip to Iraq

In December of 2003, Robert went to Iraq as part of a ten person team from Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, KY. Our primary goal was to distribute food supplies and New Testaments to nearly 500 families in the Kurdish areas of Iraq, on behalf of SBC churches in America that had donated these supplies to the Iraqi people.

Mission Trip to Moldova

In May 2003, Robert was a part of a team that traveled from the US and UK to teach Biblical business principles to Christians in Moldova who wanted to start businesses to better their communities and to glorify God.
