Gulls on the chimney tops opposite La Folie
Gribben Head marks the eastern limit of St Austell Bay and the entrance to the Fowey Estuary. On a clear day the red and white 84 foot high square tower (which is not a lighthouse but a daymark, another type of navigation aid for shipping) can be seen for many miles, both from sea and from land looking along the coast. Erected by Trinity House in 1832 on land provided by Sir William Rashleigh, the tower's ornamental railings have only recently been replaced following the removal of the originals for scrap iron in the Second World War.
Polridmouth Cove (beneath Gribben Head) is just a few miles along the coast from Fowey and is a popular family beach in season. This isolated house apparently provided the novelist Daphne du Maurier with the inspiration for Rebecca

The Fowey-Polruan ferry early on 30th December
Sunrise over Polruan
An even earlier sunrise on New Year's Eve - the boat was bouncing on the waves and the exposure was s-l-o-w
MV Flinterwave, a 3000 tonne general cargo ship registered in the Netherlands, enters the Fowey estuary
Leaving Fowey and heading towards Readymoney this delightful NT wall divides the road from the water
Same wall, slightly later/further back
Down at the water's edge and a slow exposure turns waves into shredded paper...

Fowey from the ferry to Polruan - spot La Folie!
La Folie - note the face in the triangular window of our cold and draughty attic room
And just in case you couldn't see it...

Lantic Bay rocks
Someone walks across the sands of Lantic Bay as the waves crash onto the beach. This photo looks upside down, somehow...

Three get windblown above Lantic Bay. They are leaning on the wind - it was amazingly strong!
The church of St Wyllow where Daphne du Maurier married the dashing Grenadier, Major Frederick Browning, on 19th July 1932, the cortege sailing up Pont Creek before walking on to the wedding service. She lived in several houses in and around Fowey

The house called Ferryside which was (wait for it) alongside the Fowey/Bodinnick ferry slipway, once owned by Daphne du Maurier

A very brightly painted house which is visible from the ferry. What kind of business do you think they run from home then?
The house has some wonderfully fanciful and carefully painted carvings
Another bird on a bit of harbour architecture with Polruan behind
It looks ruinous from Fowey but this building turns out to be inhabited and in very good shape
