Azalea Lake, CA July 5,2009
This was a great hike- about my limit for one day's walk (over 12 miles}. The goal was pretty Azalea Lake which resides at the head of the Butte Fork stream in CA. It was a great walk, great company and little did we know that the most exciting moments were yet to come as we climbed back into Tom 's Jetta after 7 and half hours of walking. We had crunched a few rocks coming in, the oil light came on as we started down the road, and wouldn't you know, not a stitch of oil showed on that dip stick. Luckily, after further testing we discovered a little oil left at the bottom of the pan, drove the next hour as fast as we could, bought all the oil left on the shelf at the Applegate store (right before closing on a Sunday), stuck gum on the dripping hole and safely and happily made it home. Wow- close call , stuck in a remote area with no cell reception and some of us heading to work the next day!
