Bundled up and ready to experience winter in Saskatchewan.
The can of cat food I found in my rental car. Not too sure what that was all about...
The awesome ice sculpture sign you see as you come into Elk Ridge Resort.
It is pretty big.
I couldn't resist!
I made it! In front of Elk Ridge Lodge.
Amazing entrance to Elk Ridge Lodge.
A blazing fireplace greets you as you walk into Elk Ridge Lodge...so cozy.
Salacia Spa, located within Elk Ridge Lodge. Time to get pampered...
The final layer of my facial, a chocolate-scented cream. All products used at the Salacia Spa are organic, so it smelled like I had actual chocolate on my face. Yum.
Staying hydrated after my facial with some Elk Ridge Resort water.
Manicure...ahhh...
Ready to dine on battered walleye at Walleye's restaurant. I had to, it just made sense, and it was good.
Ready to take on the toboggan hill at Elk Ridge Resort. It was much bigger than I thought it would be.
OK, maybe I'm not ready for this.
I survived! It was actually a pretty fun ride, but a long way back up to the top. Check out this video of my tobogganing experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNFvOdxBuuA
Just about to the top.
I needed to rest a bit before going down again...which I did!
Gorgeous boreal forest.
At Sundogs Dogsled Excursions, ready for my first dog sledding experience.
Getting to know the residents.
Ready to go.
Brad Muir, Sundogs Sled Excursions Owner/Operator, runs through the check list of things I need to know before we head out on the trail.
Showing me the basics of driving the sled.
He wraps his instructional session by showing me the Sundogs motion sickness bag, which as he put it, "is located in the seat pocket behind me"...just like being on a plane.
Time to harness the dogs, and they let me help out.
Look at those eyes!
And, away we go! Check out the video of my ride http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cgKIVjRdkY
Back from my trip. It was SO fun. Everyone should experience dog sledding. It is extremely accessible in Saskatchewan. Check out their website: www.sundogs.sk.ca
I think I'm ready to drive my own team...maybe next time : )
In the lobby at Elk Ridge Resort you can rent snow shoes, hockey skates and sticks, cross-country skies, boots and poles. There are a number of trails right outside the lodge, so it's so simple to rent your equipment and go.

I decided to try out cross-country skiing this day, so I got suited up and headed outside.
Right in my path to the trails, I came upon these four elk just a few steps outside of the lodge. I guess that's why it has its name.
Once I found an elk-free trail I snapped on my skies and was on my way.
I was really picking up speed!
A fun activity in a beautiful setting.
Elk Ridge Resort's backyard - a skating oval, hockey rink, curling ice pad and ice scuplture shelter for building a fire.
Trying my hand at curling.
It's a little weird curling alone.
But I managed to still have fun.
Yes! A perfect shot!
An amazing amount of space and breath-taking scenery.
Elk Ridge Resort.
Ready to try ice fishing for the first time. I drilled my own hole...no big deal.
Still drilling...
Once I was through the ice I shoveled snow away from my fishing hole.
Scooping the slush away.
I made that hole!
Now I'm fishing.
No bites yet...
I guess the fish weren't in the mood to play today.
A great way to end a great trip. This Steelhead Trout dish at the Copper Ridge Dining Room & Lounge was de-lic-ous!
