The first tree on the Olaoke farm - I have a picture of this tree from almost every visit. It produced some fruit last year, and has many flowers, but only a few bunches at this time.
A sample fruit bunch from one of the trees close to the shelter.
This tree is far behind the others, a replacement tree, also delayed until recently by shading from the tree to the right that has just been cut down.
This tree is typical of this part of the farm. Many flowers can be seen.
A close-up of the flowers and bunches.
This bunch is ready to harvest. The plan is to come back Tuesday and harvest the few here that are ready.
The trees in this section of the farm, which amounts to less than an acre, are yet to be ringed.
This area was being farmed in Oct 2008, but now we must settle for ringing.
More fruit bunches - this time not so close to the shelter, on the path toward the west - northwest.
This is the final western section of the farm, with some work yet to do to clear vines. There does not seem to be any need to clear the ground-cover.
Another tree toward the western edge. Some attention to the vines is needed.
This tree has ripe fruit to be harvested today.
This is the bunch ready to harvest.
After harvesting.
A second bunch harvested on the same trip.
Weighing the harvested bunches.
Weight is 5.4 kg. Note that a small bunch from Awe, partly eaten by worms or insects and harvested Monday (28Sep09), is included in the total, so the corrected weight for the two bunches is 5.2 kg. Compare the average weight from 2009 at barely over 1.0 kg/bunch.
