Ogunkunle farm, at intersection of road with SW boundary, view to N. Note many lower branches lost to fire.
Sample flowers from tree featured in previous photo. Approximately 90% or more of trees on this farm are flowering to some extent. A handful have fruit.
Another flower, lighter in color and therefore more recent, from the same tree.
Tree with largest bunches seen at Ogunkunle farm at this time.
The two main bunches pictured are expected to ripen in perhaps 5 weeks - early November.
Additional bunches like this one on the same tree are likely to ripen in approximately 3 months.
Another bunch on the same tree.
This smaller tree was shorter than the grass and the tractor plowed over it as a result. Perhaps 5 trees were damaged this way, but they are expected to survive.
View to the west from near the center of the plowed area not currently allocated to a farmer. This part of the farm is estimated at 10 acres, with probably around 600 trees.
The northern / northeastern section of the farm is being farmed for maize. View is looking east.
The Ogunkunle shelter was completely destroyed by the fire that touched the whole farm in February 2009. It will be rebuilt much smaller, using the same roofing material, at minimal expense, to temporarily store harvested fruit that exceeds motorcycle capacity and for shelter from rain.
This example smaller fruit will also likely ripen in November. The tree is pictured in the next slide.
This is one of 7 trees left not fully cleared in a border to protect the maize from the goats. The previous goat fence was destroyed in the fire.
The same maize farmer has planted the entire south / southwest side of the road. This is the view looking west from the east corner of his cleared area. A remaining approx. 1 acre is yet to be cleared (by hand) to the east / northeast. A short goat barrier of bush can be seen (right half), but contains none of our trees on this side of the road.
A sample minor spot, probably chemical burn from weed-killer, on a tree near the maize farmer's east / southeast corner.
A view to the south from near the road.
