NPA BOSS DONATES TO GROUP OF 77

The Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Madam Matilda Parker has donated a consignment of relief items to the Group of 77.The organization is responsible for the welfare of disabled and physically challenged people in Liberia. On March 2, the Managing Director led a special delegation to identify and provide assorted items to the out-station branches of the group in an effort to attract public attention to the needs of disabled people disenfranchised by circumstances. She also extended her hands of support to the fire victims of Divine Town in the vicinity of the Lone Star Cell Corporation Headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia. The home and properties of victims were completely obliterated by fire leaving them seriously vulnerable and desperately needy. This gesture was in furtherance of the National Port Authority's culture of identifying with Liberians whenever they are in need, especially as a result of accidents and natural causes and disasters.

NPA'S EMPLOYEES SURPRISE MD PARKER ON HER BIRTH DAY

March 9 marks an important memomry in the life span of Madam Matilda Wokie Parker, Managing Director of the NPA. It was that day she began to experience the virtues of life on planet Earth. Every time of this in the a year, she says, "the day is given a very special attention to reflect the importance of being born and parenthood". She says her parents must be commended for the rough love she enjoyed while in their care. "It's what made me what I'm today," she says. For this year, her plan was secret. She thought to be alone in remembrance of her parents and the good disciplines they impacted in her life."My feeling was to shut-down everything and take a deep retrospection," she indicates. However, the story turned out different. The employees of her entity, recognizing her compassion and humility, prepared a surprise birthday celebration for the Managing Director. The program brought together classes of business and people in politics in Liberia.

Madam Matilda Parker Hosts A Children Party In Buchanan City

The Managing Director of the National Port Authority(NPA) on Saturday, February 5, held a children party under the theme: Vote For Your Child's Future Children Party. The NPA Boss said, children have a significant role to play thus they need an opportunity to understand the importance of holding national elections. She told the children to compel their parents to register to vote so that they(parents) can secure a better future for their children. The NPA Boss said, it was troubling when she heard of a low turn out in Grand Bassa County. The NPA Boss who herself was involved in distributing food items, said her exercise was intended to encourage her kins to come up and participate in the process that will determine who becomes Liberia's next President. She donated ten bags of rice to the first ten parents, and donated US$100.00 to each college students that register and attended the party showing their voting cards and indelible ink.

Madam Matilda Parker on voter education campaign in Clara Town

In Liberia there seems to be a new spirit regarding voter registration. Many people from the onset were developing fatigue and showing less interest in registering to vote in this year's presidential, representative, and senatorial elections slated for October of this year. Most of these people are those living in swamp communities. Madam Parker, during one of her usual tours to swamp communities, visited Clara Town to encourage potential voters to register and be able to vote in the coming elections. The program was organized by one of the youth organizations in Monrovia called the Polit-Beauro, which is situated in the same community of Clara Town. The program gathered a score of youths and elders in receipt of the Managing Director's message. In conveying her message, Madam Parker donated US$500 and twelve(12) sacs of mineral water to the youth organization and encouraged them to remain committed in their drive to making Liberia a better society for all.

ADDITIONAL HONORS FOR MD PARKER

Closing the year 2010 with strong taste and enthusiasm of success, scores of civil society organizations including the media are lavishing heep of accolades on Madam Matilda Wokie Parker, Managing Director of the National Port Authority for her performance in transforming the seaports of Liberia. On Tuesday, having being honored as Managing Director of the year by Front Page Africa, Evidence Newspaper, Truth FM Essadine Faruk Show, and SKY FM, other organizations have joined the venture. Such organizations are, the Progressive Alliance Movement of Liberia, Society for the Promotion of Peace, and the Global News Network so far. This reminds that the entire Liberia bears witness of the works and efforts of the Managing Director.

MATILADA PARKER HONORS AS MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR

The SKY Communications Inc. has certificated Madam Matilda Parker as Managing Director of the Year 2010. According to Mr. Francis Pelena, Director of News at the station, the station awarded the certificate in recognition of the dedication and committed services Madam Parker has rendered Liberia and humanity, which demonstrates commitment to the economic growth and development of Liberia during the year indicated. Receiving the certificate on behalf of Madam Parker, Mr. D. Henry Smith, Public Relations Consultant at the NPA, lauded the station for recognizing the good efforts of the Managing Director. He thanked the station and said his boss would use the certificate as a motivating instrument to exert more efforts that would speedup development at the NPA. SKY Communications Inc. is one of the leading FM stations in Monrovia that is making maximum impact on social development in Liberia.

MD PARKER CELEBRATES NEW YEAR WITH CHILDREN OF THE FREEPORT COMMUNITY

MD Parker celebrated the New Year with children of the Freeport Community on Bushrod Island in Monrovia. The Freeport Community is one of the swamp communities in Liberia that contains a large number of children affected by the 14 years war in Liberia and poverty. The community is usually flooded during the rainy season barring children from going to school. According to residents in the community, Madam Matilda Parker is the first Managing Director of NPA that has initiated a program of such in their community. The program climaxed with children food and toys distribution on the children. The Managing Director also made a US$500.00 donation to the community in an effort to initiate the rehabilitation of the main road leading to the community.

Madam Martha Nagbe, in receipt of the money, commended the Managing Director for the kind gesture and pledged to use the money for its intended purpose.

PRESIDENT ELLEN JOHNSON SIRLEAF COMMENCES BIRHTDAY CELEBRATION AT NPA

The President of Liberia, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf commenced the celebration of her 72nd Birth Anniversary at the National Port Authority. The President turned 72 years on October 29. President Sirleaf had visited the Headquarters of the National Port Authority situated at the Freeport of Monrovia to receive a donation of twenty-five (25) buses from the Government and People of the Republic of India. The Managing Director, Madam Matilda W. Parker received the President and presented to her a bouquet of flower in recognition of the President's Natal Day followed by a bus touring around Monrovia and its environs.

NPA BOSS, MATILDA PARKER AT CABINET RETREAT IN BASSA

This year cabinet retreat brought together scores of government officials and key development partners that are contributing to Liberia's growth and progress. The MD of the National Port Authority attended the retreat in an effort to creat a balance in the Sirleaf led Government's sectorial reform programs. The Porverty Reduction Strategy commonly known as 'Lift Liberia' was reviewed in order to identify potential components that colud be packaged in a 90-days deliverable scheme. With such target, a lot of government's mainstream revenue generation institutions such as Ministry of Plan, Lands, Mines, and Energy, Finance, and others were considered in discussing the possibilities.The US Embassy, Chinese Embassy, UNMIL, UNDP, and others were also at the retreat to provide sustantive contributions to the plan.

BUCHANAN PORT UNDERGOES DREDGING

Wrecks removal is a factor in managing ports the have been seriously affected by war. The Liberian Ports are no different from such needs. During the war years, a lot of the seaports in the country were affected by the crisis as a result of the manner in which these ports were used. Like the Buchanan Port, most of these ports have not undergone wrecks removal and dredging in 20 years. Today, management under the Matilda's Leadership is making every effort to make these ports comfortable and convenient for shipping and business ventures.

NPA BOSS, Matilda welcomes President Sirleaf to Buchanan Port

The Port of Buchanan is consistently being used by concessionaires that are involved into logging activities. During the war years, logging companies like OTC,etc were using the Buchanan Port for their activities. Currently, Buchanan hosts Buchanan Renewable Energy(BRE), Mittal Steel, bhp Biliton, etc. President Sirleaf visited the Port on Saturday, 23 October, 2010 in order to acquaint herself with improvements the Matilda's Administration has made to the Port.

Madam Parker Interacts with students at the National Ministerial Retreat held in Grand Bassa County

This year, the Government of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf held its cabinent retreat in Grand Bassa County. During the retreat, the President toured several facilities including the Port of Buchanan. Madam Parker also utilized the opportunity to have a personal interaction with universities' students and as well as members of the Grand Bassa Students Union(GBUSU)- an organization that provides leadership for the entire student body in the County.

SECURITY AND SAFY AT THE PORTS OF LIBERIA

During the war years, the Freeport of Monrovia became a hidden cartel for criminals, who often took advantage of the vulnerability of the area each time a ship docked at the facility making the port to have bad reputation. As such, ships flying the Liberian Flag and sailing into Liberian Waters had to undergo thorough scrutiny like they were already infested with an incurable disease. These rigorous measures by maritime security institutions discouraged a lot of shipping institutions from sailing into Liberian Waters causing a strain on the nation's economy until the commencement of the era of Madam Matilda Parker as Managing Director of the (NPA). Since she took over in May of 2009, the seaports of Liberia continue their pivotal role in handling of ocean-borne international cargo at less than full capacity. Liberia can boast of the Freeport of Monrovia and Port of Buchanan being ISPS(International Shipping Port Security) complaint.

Unlike Madam Parker, many directors heading autonomous agencies in Liberia often confine themselves in their luxurious offices and direct their subordinates to do every hard part of the job. But for Madam Parker, she fines compassion in not only making the hardest parts of the job successful but loves to be totally involved steering the movement of success.
