Valley of the Fallen and El Escorial
We took a day trip to see the Valley of the Fallen--a temple in a mountain built by Franco to recognize those fallen in the Spanish Civil War.. but it was built by prisoners of war, many of whom died and are "in" the walls. It is also a place for religious services, and it is where Franco is buried. Creepiest place I've ever been to. Then we went to a palace/library/monastery at El Escorial, built by Felipe II and dedicated to San Lorenzo.. it's where the royal family members are all buried and the library is unbelievable. They compare it to that of the Vatican. Both of these places don't allow photo-taking.
