This is my big trip to DC for the Inauguration - I'm still amazed that I was there for the big historical event! And I met some incredible people that I was able to share the experience with and make some fun memories!

Puerto Rico recon trip Dec 2008

My mom, Jason's mom, my good friend Elysia and i all traveled to Puerto Rico for a recon wedding trip. We worked hard, met with many people, enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and even managed to get to the beach (after Ann Marie left unfortunately). It was amazing and we think it just might work!

Namibia - Sep/Oct 2008

This is the trip I took with my peace corps friend Kristen and her sister Lindsey. Two weeks driving around the country - it was amazing and so much fun with the girls. Full of fun stories and experiences and lots of "girlie" stuff (you'd be surprised at how much wasn't so girlie)!

The Girls in Durban

Our last stop on the trip was Durban (where we actually started). We met mom at the return mass for the ACTS retreat and then celebrated my birthday by going to the only mexican restaurant in SA - Taco Zulu. Then it was the sad goodbye...but they were excited to go home to see Cameron and eventually Anne-Marie. And I think Dad was desperate for a full house again!

The Girls in Limpopo (minus mom)

While Mom stayed in Durban to get ready for her retreat, Katie and Teresa and I traveled up to Limpopo to my home so they could see the Phedisang project and a different part of the country...something the regular tourist doesn't actually get to see. We also had a party, which was the girls favorite part!

The Girls in Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve

Second on our agenda was a game park. It was amazing - we saw (and were stared down by) zebras, wild dogs (very rare) a few rhinos, a LOT of elephants during a night drive, a cameleon, and so much more. And of course it was even better than any other trip to a game park because my sisters and mom were with me!

The Girls in St. Lucia

The start of the Hotard girls trip in South Africa - our first destination was St. Lucia where we went whale watching (and got sick), waited 2 hours for a new rental car because ours wouldn't start, saw some crocodiles and frolicked with some hippos.

I spent some time with a few French peeps - we went Kruger and then one of them, Koon, was helping a kid in my village build a shower so we hung out and had some dinner. It was nice to be out after dark!

Family Fun Day 2008

We had a fundraiser for Phedisang in Johannesburg, a Family Fun Day. The day proved to have great weather and there was a fairly good turnout. There was an auction, musicians and other entertainment. This was also the week that Susan came to Johannesburg - she had a great time.

2007 Holiday

I spent 2 weeks in Simon's Town (outside of Cape Town) for my holiday. It was laid back with no agenda and just meeting up with friends whenever we could.

World Map Mural #1

The first of the 6 world maps was completed in 3 days with the help of 3 volunteers - Monica and Hershey and Katherine. We learned a lot and hopefully the next ones will turn out even better. It was definitely a fun week!

After my trip home, I only had 2 weeks at my village before I came back to Johannesburg to work. It was packed with work and lots of visitors - Jason, Katherine and Monica and Hershey!

November 2007 Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving in Louisiana with my granpa and aunt. It was nice and relaxing and fun hanging out with my little sisters! On the way home from Louisiana, we stopped in Houston and met up with Jason's brother, Scott and his family so I could meet Will. He's adorable!!

Oct 2007 kruger life

This is one of my trips to Kruger National Park. I went with some of my PC friends after a training. We saw lots of animals including lions right off the road - it was amazing!

Oct 2007 village life

This was a fun month - went to my first Catholic mass in the village, there was a big event for the OVC put on by the gov, we had another American volunteer, a party for him, there was a cultural event at a church in Metz village (Tanya's village) and then we had a big Phedisang sports tournament.

The major event in August was the Roedean High School work weekend at Phedisang where 9 high school girls worked for an intense 5 days. Phedisang also had 3 German volunteers all at once. A busy and eventful month!

This was the last stop on our adventurous trip. We had a whirlwind week seeing shows and meeting all my friends. It was sad to say goodbye but alas, we always have to go back to work and reality.

July 2007 Mom in Durban

Mom came with an ACTS Mission group that put on a couple retreats for 2 parishes in Durban. I went on the retreat with her and it was a really special weekend full of "secrets" that I'm not allowed to share. It was great to spend the time with her and explore my beliefs which I haven't really allowed myself to do.
