Abura Kabe (Oil Wall) This wall is quite different from other ones in the castle grounds. It is made of sand and clay and those are kneaded with rice glue and then the mixture is pressed and hardened. This style shows that the wall dates back to the time before Terumasa Ikeda. The wall repels water and it is hard like concrete. In addition it is bulletproof. It has stood here for over 400 years. (1.24m x 5.2m x 2.82m)
Ubagaishi (Hand Mill Stone) Hideyoshi Hashiba (later Hideyoshi Toyotomi) had difficulties in collecting stones in the building of the castle. A poor woman, who made her living by selling ricecakes, offered her own hand mill stone to the lord. Hideyoshi was very pleased with her sacrifice and the story spread all over the area. A lot of stones were donated, which made the construction go very quickly.
Mazmorras
Ru Gate. This gate is built in the stone walls away from the regular passageway and it's like a tunnel. It's a sort of secret passage which is a very unique one seen only in Himeji Castle. Nobody notices there is a gate here and it serves a special tactial purpose. There is another one of this kind at the entracen to Sack Turret.
