Butterfly on Lilac (Miss Kim)
Butterfly on Miss Kim Lilac. I've never seen butterflies in my garden!
I was about 12 feet away when I took this
Would ya just look at how cool the butterfly is? Even his butt is the same coloring as his wings.
I wish I could have gotten closer to get better detail, but it was very skittish and flew away (and came back) quite a few times.
Butterfly on Miss Kim dwarf Lilac
Not a great shot... but shows some more detail in the wing
If you know how small an aphid is, then you'll realize how small this lady bug larve is.
Family meal with lady bug larve and aphids. I think that white ghost looking thing is an aphid sucked dry.
Tiny Lady Bug Larve sucking out the ooey gooey insides of a pretty big aphid
That's my fingernail bed in the upper left corner of the phot. This little Lady Bug is very small.
Tea for two. Interesting how the one lady bug is black, and some of the larve is a lighter color. The lower lady bug is hung up on the aphids legs, that's why it's sticking up like that.
Lady bug eggs, getting ready to hatch
Some newborn ladybug larve and an older one
A spider
Same spider - can you see it's eyes? Click the Zoom Button to get a closer look!
Lady bug larve - they eat the leftover egg material for nutrition.
Ladybug larve emerging from their eggs
Ladybug larve eating egg material. See the little aphid at the bottom of the screen? I'll be he's happy the larve aren't eating him!
Pile o' lady bug larve. They eat their egg sac remnants for food when they're first born.
Another view of a pile o' lady bug larve finishing up their egg sacs for lunch.
The Three Amigos
This is cool-3 stages of life. You can see lady bug larve 1)not developed, 2)inside the egg, and 3)emerging from the egg. I read that there are always unfertile eggs laid so the babies have stuff to eat.
Lady Bug Larve just emerging from their eggs
lady bug larve settling into every day life...
Lady bug larve
cute little orange striped lady bug larve. Sometimes they're black with a red strip, sometimes they're this yellowy orange & black color.
Not born / born lady bug larve
Closer shot of "not born" / "born"
Lady Bug laying eggs. Sometimes they lay them in neat clusters all lined up in a row, sometimes it's willy nilly.
Egg drop soup
You can tell a pregnant lady bug, they don't look like their body fits into their shell.
They lay their eggs about every 10 - 30 seconds. There must be something sticky on them, as they're often laid on the underside of a leaf.
THAT is an EGG coming out of a ladybug! I use the SuperMacro feature on my new camera. The ladybugs are captive in canning jars. I caught them on my neighbors tree.
HHHHMMMMFFFF
Mama is all done. She looks fit and trim, like she never even had a baby. (or 20)
I think this is just a garden spider. I KNOW it's not a Hobo, which is what I was looking for (but hoping I didn't have, though I do have them...)
