Live Debris 2009

Trash Mash-Up hosted a Mash-Up Bash, a free parade, at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Portland's Eastbank Esplanade. This is part of the Live Debris 2009 (Escombros Vivos) Event. Live Debris 2009 is a traveling series of events establishing new reuse traditions as a means of reducing stigmas around garbage, poverty and street culture. Along the Esplande there was an exhibition of reuse installations and design. This event was curated by Taylor Cass Stevenson and Portland City Art.

Opportunity Impact Summer 2009

Trash Mash-Up partnered with Opportunity Impact over the Summer of 2009. TMU offered workshops to the students in OI summer program. They created three kinds of Maskostumes all inspired by West African Traditions.

Whitney Young Child Development Center

Over the summer of 2009, Trash Mash-Up partnered with Whitney Young Child Development Center. TMU offered workshops and Mash-Up Bashes. On July 31, TMU and WYCDC performed Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at the Mo'Magic Youth Showcase. On August 14, TMU and WYCDC hosted a Mash-Up Bash at the Bayview site. Following the Mash-Up Bash, the student of Whitney Young showcased their talents.

2009 Hayes Valley National Night Out Event

Trash Mash-Up will be featured at the Eight Annual Western Addition National Night Out. The goals of this event include increasing crime awareness, generating support for anti-crime programs, strengthening police-community partnerships, and sending a message that there are many positive activities in the community. The Night Out is sponsored by Community Partners United, Supervisor Mirkarimi, the Mayor's Office, Hayes Valley Playground, Northern Station, Mo' Magic, and Safety Network. The Eight Annual Western Addition National Night Out is on Tuesday, August 4th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hayes Valley Playground at 699 Hayes Street.

Carnaval SF 2009

Trash Mash-Up was featured at Carnaval SF’s Grand Parade in San Francisco, California on Sunday, May 24, 2009. One of the city's most spectacular traditions, Carnaval San Francisco showcases the very best of Latin American and Caribbean cultures and traditions with a diverse array of food, music, dance and artistry, including works created by the talented community of Mission District residents and Bay Area artists. Conceived 31 years ago by a group of local musicians, artists and residents eager to bring the spirit of Latin American and Caribbean culture to San Francisco, Carnaval San Francisco is produced by the Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc. and is supported by San Francisco's Grants for the Arts. Since 1959, the Mission Neighborhood Centers has provided quality programs that promote self-sufficiency and community growth for the Mission District's children, youth, families and seniors. Trash Mash-Up was at the Carnaval SF Mayor’s Reception on May 6, 2009.

Costa Rica 2008

Over Summer 2008, Trash Mash-Up traveled to Costa Rica, participating in a community art projects. This project is a collaboration between TMU, SF State and PRETOMA, a Costa Rican sea turtle conservation organization. University students worked with local schools and community members to provide month-long art and ecology projects with the community of Punta Banco. Punta Banco is a very small village of about 250 citizens in the Southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica and home to one of PRETOMA’s sea turtle nesting sites. The Million Puppet Project

Trash Mash-Up will be apart of Million Puppet Project. From April 2-12, 2008 in Perth, Western Australia as a part of the UNIMA Congress and World Puppetry Festival, The Million Puppet Project is attempting to break the A Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Puppet Display! Imagine, one million puppets all exhibited in one big space – sock, hand, rod, finger, junk, glove, shadow, marionette and moveable creatures never seen before. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre has invited Trash Mash-Up to send some of their creation to be apart of the Million Puppet Project. Students at the KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy created 15 puppets for The Million Puppet Project. Puppets sent on an adventure to the Million Puppet Project are not able to be sent home; instead, very special puppets will be auctioned to festival goers during the festival. Money raised will be donated to a UNESCO based organization. Other puppets will be traveling all around the world to cheer up underprivileged children
