"The violet makes it, for sure, Rachel. That's the best part. I don't think it's finished. I had drawn a really lovely little winter tree, ink lines in the bark, the one outside my window, and then some daemon in my paint rag made me wipe it out until this scraggly memory of the tree was left, but I liked it better. Doing that shifted the patterns. The blacks around the face are now too heavy for the rest of the image, I think. The different planes of colour and form aren't negotiating with themselves on the page too well. I guess you could say. :) Or maybe that's what the painting is about. Making art is a process of discovery, as you well know!!!!"
