The last remaining original windmill in Montmartre. When the Prussian forces were attacking Paris, they destroyed the windmills to cut off the food supply. The owner of this windmill tried to resist, so the army made an example of him. They either tied him to one of the fans of the mill and spun him to death or they quartered him first and then tied his body parts to each of the fans.
St. Denis, the patron saint of Paris. He was beheaded by the Romans when he came to preach the Bible. Rumor has it that after he was beheaded, he picked up his head, washed it off in a fountain, walked down the road a little, and then finally collapsed on the site he would be buried.
