Samsung United Against Hunger Competition

FoodBank South Africa, together with our generous sponsor, Samsung, held an exciting competition for amateur and professional photographers to celebrate World Food Day on 16 October 2010. World Food Day, October 16th, is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding and informed, year-around action to alleviate hunger. This year's [2010] theme is United Against Hunger. We asked photographers to submit photographs that best interpret this theme, depicting individual and community food stories in the fight against hunger.

FoodBank Cape Town: Western Province Preparatory School Visit

On Tuesday the 23rd of June 48 excited boys from Western Province Preparatory School braved the fierce storms and arrived at the FoodBank Cape Town warehouse in Philippi. As part of the schools outreach programme the grade 5 boys, under the supervision of their teachers, Oliver Steynor and Andrew Hughes, came to spend a day volunteering in the FoodBank. The FoodBank / Homebase Sale

For many years, Homebase UK has donated furniture from their summer catalogue shoot to be sold to raise funds for Feedback (which is now transformed into FoodBank South Africa). On 5th & 6th of June 2009, recently donated items went on sale at the The Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science & Technology in Cape Town. Items for sale included teak recliners, patio heaters, patio umbrellas, teak chairs (and a few tables), chair cushions, aluminum chairs, gas braais, kettle braais, garden pots, and so on and so on.

FoodBank Johannesburg Launch Event, Johannesburg Securities Exchange

Two events marked the launch of the Johannesburg FoodBank. The first took place at the FoodBank which is located within the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market in City Deep. The second was held at the Johannesburg Securities Exchange in Sandown. Both events took place on 26 May 2009.

FoodBank South Africa Inauguration

A combined FoodBank South Africa Inauguration and FoodBank Cape Town Appreciation Event was held at the Philippi Fresh Produce Market in Cape Town on 6th April 2009. It was followed by a signing of a memorandum of understanding with government officials at Old Mutual House.
