School of Arts Move - midnight in Windsor
Being able to say that you stayed up till 2am on a Saturday morning watching a 90 year old timber building wobble its way up a major road is perhaps not the hippest reason to some for lost sleep but it was memorable for us and even more so for our French and Austrian companions who had never seen such a thing. Large, creaking timber buildings wandering around the city and highways are not a rare occurence in Southeast Queensland, but for understandable reasons can only occur in the wee hours when a 4-lane wide building won't cause havoc.
Cameras whirred, clicked and flashed from all directions to capture the first half of the buiding (complete with a crowd of obstinate pigeons perched near the gable) lurching its way down onto the road and up the street to the neighbouring park, its new home. Neighbours, in their pyjamas, passersby, construction crew and my workmates snapped away prolifically. The two halves will be reunited over the next few weeks/months.
