We seemed to have aquired a Roman Guard for the Roman Pottery!
Making Roman style oil lamps
Not everyone made pots, lamps or bricks!
Paul helps this girl to make a brick as her Mum looks on with a camera ready.
Lots of people making clay pots etc.
These visitors learn about what the Romans ate. Most of it was not too different to what we eat today.
Visitors could dress as a Roman soldier.
The Roman lady shows these 2 boys the photo she has just taken of one of them using her not very Roman digital camera!
Apparently Romans ate celery leaves but not the stalks. Salt was very valuable and many Romans were paid in it. The Roman word for salt was “sal” which is where we get the word “salary”.
Clay pots etc.
Most of the oil lamps on the table are replicas, but 3 are real Roman ones.
These 2 oil lamps are genuine Roman ones and are not replicas. They are in very good condition considering how old they are.
This one is also Roman and not a replica.
