Piedmont Hills High School LEO Club Charter Night

The Piedmont Hills High School LEO Club had their Charter Night during the 10th Anniversary of the Milpitas Executive Lions Club on November 3, 2012 at 8:00 PM. The chartering officer was Past International President Judge Brian Stevenson assisted by MD4 LEO Chairperson Lita Guidotti and Milpitas Executive LEO Advisor MariCris Benitez. 20 LEO Club Charter officers and members were present that evening. The Lions International Peace Poster winner of 2008-09, Yenny Shui is the Charter President of the PHHS LEO Club.

Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind

The Enchanted Hills Camp is LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired located at 3410 Mt. Veeder Road in Napa, CA. For more information call 415.694.7352. Check out their website at: www.lighthouse-sf.org *** Enchanted Hills Camp offers a traditional summer camp experience for blind and visually-impaired youth. Programs at EHC include swimming, horseback riding, adaptive recreation, art, nature studies and evening events.

Once again, our 7th Fry's Electronics Hot Dog Sale was a success. Milpitas Executive Lions Club extends our heartfelt thanks all club members, family & friends who volunteered their time for the success of this fundraising event. Proceeds go towards our charitable projects.

Milpitas Executive Lions Club hosted the "Share Your Cause" Community Mixer at Santa Clara Room of the Beverly Heritage Hotel, 1820 Barber Lane, Milpitas CA. Local charitable, nonprofit and community organizations were invited to come to the mixer and share information about the causes they benefit with other attendees.

YOUTH ART WORKSHOP by Yennie Shyu, LCI Peace Poster winner 2008-09

Milpitas Executive Lions Club sponsored a YOUTH ART WORKSHOP conducted by Yennie Shyu, Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Grand Prize Winner for 2008-2009. It was held Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 3:30pm-5:30pm at the Milpitas Public Library located at 160 N. Main Street Milpitas, CA 95035. It is a free workshop is open to students who are 9 to 13 years of age. There will be a couple more workshops during the summer months.

MELC & MHS LEO members, family & friends join the MILPITAS ARBOR DAY EVENT on 3-10-12 with Tree Planting and Park Clean-Up at Hall Memorial Park . They also be picked up litter, swept pathways, checked for graffiti on signs, restroom walls, picnic tables and benches, pulled weeds, raked leaves and reported any park concerns.

Diabetes Awareness Seminar 11-28-11

The guest speaker is VAL ISAACSON, RN, MSN, who is Certified Diabetes Educator, Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management and Insulin Pump and Glucose Sensor Trainer spoke on how to "Help Prevent Vision Loss". Making Vision a Health Priority to promote eye health awareness and blindness prevention. And to raise awareness of diabetic retinopathy, a leading cause of adult blindness. There was Free Diabetes Screening and BP testing at starts at 11:30 AM for the public and hotel staff.

Milpitas Executive Lions Club Tree Planting Event

Lions Tree Planting Event November 19, 2011 8:00 AM to Noon Creighton Park in Milpitas Why trees? Trees help the environment.They are like the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. Trees also reduce erosion to save soil, help preserve local water sources, and provide habitat for wildlife living. There were 30 + volunteers including the Milpitas Executive Lions Club members, Milpitas High School LEOS and other Lions club members who helped in the tree planting. It is one of the best things we can do for the local environment.

Make A Difference Day Oct 29, 2011

This is the time when we can come together in one location and share with our community what services we have in the City of Milpitas. This is a great opportunity for our residents to better understand the services available and how they can benefit from these services or where they can volunteer or make contributions. There will also be an AJ Robinson Health Screening Van where you can have hearing, vision, blood pressure & glucose tested for free. The highlight of this event is the Lions Club International "Sharing the Vision Campaign, a global Lions campaign focused on the importance of healthy vision. We will also be collecting used eyeglasses on that day. On October 31 is Sight Night, instead of candies we collect used eyeglasses. The eyeglasses collected will be sorted by prescription, cleaned and distributed to visually impaired people throughout the world.

SUPERVISOR DAVE CORTESE One Day in the Bay A MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL

MILPITAS EXECUTIVE LIONS CLUB will sponsor The A.J. Robinson Mobile Screening Unit — affectionately referred to as “The A.J.”---- is a mobile trailer outfitted for providing health screenings that may highlight risks for blindness or vision problems. The trailer is also outfitted to be used for hearing screenings. The range of screenings that can be provided depends on the skills of the Volunteer that staff it. You can have your height, weight , blood pressure, resting respiratory rate, and blood sugar measured. No diagnostic procedures are performed, but patients leave with a record of the findings that they can bring to their doctors or health professionals for follow-up.

28th Annual National Night Out

On August 4TH, 2011 the Milpitas Executive Lions Club participated in the NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2011 in Milpitas, California USA. It’s America’s Night Out Against Crime! The Milpitas Police Department encouraged residents to host neighborhood parties in celebration of the 28th Annual National Night Out. Lion Marie Pham of the Milpitas Executive Lions Club organized a block party in her neighborhood. Club members including the Club President MariCris Benitez,volunteered to assist her in this event. The Mayor of Milpitas, Jose Esteves who is also a Lions Club member, Board of Supervisor Dave Cortese, Milpitas Councilmember Debbie Giordano, Firefighters, Policemen and families in the neighborhood where present to celebrate this Night Out.

Dental Mission and Eyeglass Clinic at Barangay Project 6 Quezon City Philippines

The Milpitas Executive Lions Club mission team composed of President Thelma Batilo, Vice-President MariCris Benitez, Treasurer Mila Garcia and Lion Danny Garcia had organized a Dental Mission at Barangay Project 6 in Quezon City, Metro Manila Philippines. Volunteer dentists lead by Dr. Cathy Llamas, wife of the Barangay Captain Vicente “Honie” Llamas V and Dr. Darwin Naranja, past Board of Director of Milpitas Executive Lions Club and now Charter President of Milpitas Gateway Silicon Valley Lions Club conducted the free dental check-up, evaluated patients and did extractions on the needy children and adults in the community. Eyeglass distribution was also given to over 100 patients. Group of nurses and barangay personnel aided to make this mission a success.

CLUB TWINNING WITH MARIKINA VALLEY HOST LC

On February 26, Twinning Agreement was signed between MILPITAS EXECUTIVE LIONS CLUB and Marikina Valley Host Lions Club. The Agreement was signed by President Thelma R Batilo visiting from California and President Virginia S. Jamilano at their Club Office in Marikina, Philippines. PDG Virgil Williams signed on behalf of District 4-C6 DG Ray Maglalang and 2nd VDG signed on behalf of District 301-D2 DG Edilberto L. Aquino. The event was witnessed by MELC Vice President Lion MariCris Benitez, Treasurer Lion Mila Garcia and Lion Danny Garcia who were in the Philippines for the Club’s Medical Missions. The officers and members of the Marikina Valley Host Lions Club were also present to witness this event.
