Sunday Social

Supporters, Actors and friends gathered together to celebrate Matrix Theatre Company's 4th Annual Sunday Social! This year, all aspects of Matrix were on display as the event coincided with a matinee performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. Our silent auction items were wonderfully offered by local artists, venues, organizations, and theaters. All food was graciously provided by co-founders Shaun & Wes Nethercott, Angelina's Italian Bistro, Café con Leche, and Union Street. It was all hands on deck for the all of Matrix staff as each member took part in all efforts to bring together this wonderful event. Than you to all who made this such a lovely afternoon!

Family Day

Matrix Theatre Company opened its doors to kids and adults of all ages for an afternoon of games and laughs. Experience what our classes have to offer through theatre games and puppet making. There was also a meet and greet with Matrix teachers for acting, playwriting, and puppetry. Don't miss this chance to make your family a part of the Matrix family!

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF by Tennessee Williams

Directed by Wes Nethercott, this taut drama sensitively portrays family dysfunction, alcoholism and homosexuality, played out by a wealthy southern family. Watch, as a family’s web of lies unravels at the 65th birthday party of Big Daddy, a plantation millionaire who thinks he has escaped death, played by Alan Madlane. 2008 Wilde Award Winner, Eric Maher, takes on the role of Brick, their son who struggles with the problems of his marriage, alcoholism, and a beloved friendship. Kristine Wakefield plays Brick’s ever-persistent, vivacious, slick-talking wife. Her unrelenting sass will be something to watch out for in this production!

Justin D'Artists @ ArtsBeatsEats

Matrix Theatre Co. has created a new performance troupe called the 'Justin D'Artists' who are performing with the giant puppet hero of Justin Dart. Their acts celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The troupe consists of 12 people with and without disabilities. They present the story of Justin Dary, the movement of the ADA, and civil rights through various performances. Their 20-minute production include monologues, ensemble pieces, poetry, and sharing stories to highlight the beauty of embracing human diversity. This project is funded by a grant from the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition and United Cerebral Palsy Michigan, called "Including Our Neighbors." Their 3 act performance at Arts, Beats & Eats included: You Get Proud by Practicing, a poem by Laura Hershey; The Struggle Goes On, written by Jean Marie Allion; The Circle, written by Jean Marie Allion. Justin Dart - Giant "Hero" Puppet

Matrix is designing, building and performing with a Giant "Hero" Puppet of Justin Dart, who was instrumental in the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. We are unveiling him at the U.S. Social Forum which is coming to Detroit in June, one month before the 20th anniversary of the ADA.
