In a glider cockpit at the Cortland Airfield, NY
Going up to 2700 feet in a glider behind a tow plane
An Ithaca Squadron cadet launches a tissue-paper hot air balloon
The view from inside the glider as we get pushed out to the runway. The pushers have to move fast--the tow plane is already starting his runup to takeoff.
Starting out on the runway
Just before release from the tow plane
In a steep bank in a thermal (that's one way to shed vertical speed)
Our point of origin
Explanation of sounds: - The thing you hear first (and most) is the wind over the fuselage - The beeping is a radio transponder - The pilot (behind me) is asking about the whereabouts of a helicopter I spotted near the ground. Note that he's speaking in a normal voice--that's how quiet it is in a glider.
WW2 Warbird looming in the fog, 8:30 AM
They don't make 'em like they used to....
A stunt plane rolls out.
More warbirds taxiing.
Not a sign I would put on an attack plane (A-10).
