Luang Prapang

This colourful French-colonial town is just blessful! Surrounded by beautiful rivers, hills, caves and waterfalls, it will easily keep you occupied for a week. Food--either western or lao style--is also very satisfying, especially the bakeries^^ But don't worry if you had too much, there's the best night market for you to walk around and get yourself some pretty souvenirs while digesting!

Vang Vieng

Nestled beside the Nam Song river in the beautiful limestone karst terrain, Vang Vieng is an awesome spot for outdoor activities. Rock climbing, kayaking, trekking or tubing, you'll find one suit yourself. And if you want to get high and party hard, though it's another story, the small town's surprisingly good for that as well.

Kep is a quiet little seaside town which is famous for its spectacular sunsets and splendid seafood. Therefore staying in one of the bungalows and watching the sunset from your hammock is a must, as well as dining out in crab market. In the desert land 100km from Pakistan boarder lies this Golden City. Rising from Trikuta hill, 99 enormous bastions hold the Jaisalmer Fort--a living monument of long-lost desert might! And riding a camel into the Thar Desert and sleeping under the stars was a fun experience as well!

Agra

This is where tourists from all over the world visit to peer through history of the great Mughal dynasty like a mouth to fire. The most famous sight would be the magical white-marble Taj Mahal standing on the bank of Yamuna River that represents the beautiful love story between Shah Jahan and his beloved second wife Mumtaz Mahal. And also the enormous red-sandstone Agra Fort serving as the Mughal Royal Palace.

Mcleod Ganj

As the residence of Dalai Lama and headquarters of the Tibetan government in exile, Mcleod Ganj is full of Tibetan refugees--most of them are young students fled from China to India for the free education. But to me rather than the political purpose, it is more important surved as a peaceful little town in the mountains which started snowing heavily on my second night there and became a snowball fighting war zone the next day!

With its notorious touts and crush of both mechanical and human traffic, even though I was prepared I still find Delhi a shock beyond my imagination sometimes. But peering through the gritty surface there comes all the amazing things Delhi could offer--history, culture, food and great parties!!!

Patan

Separated from Kathmandu by the Bagmati River, Patan is the second largest town in the valley and a great place worth a day trip. Its Durbar Square definitely has the most concentrated mass of temples among the three (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan).

Bhaktapur

The historic "City of Devotees" lies 12km east of Kathmandu and definitely worth a visit for its famous elegant art and fabulous culture. Losing myself in the narrow alleys with all the temples, shrines, craftman shops of pottery and woodcarvings, I could smell the vivid Newari lifestyle's coming to me passed through hundreds of years' history.

My way to escape from the noisy Kathmandu is to go trekking with Kul to his hometown area Timal. With no tourists, no hotels and no big buses on the way, I stayed in Kul's relatives' houses and experienced the true Nepali life in the mountains.

As the historical birthplace of Gautama Siddhartha Buddha, Lumbini is surely a hot spot to visit for the buddists all over the world. But surprisingly this place hasn't been too touristy--other than the monasteries founded by different countries, it remains as a quiet small town close to Indian boarder.

Royal Chitwan National Park

This park covers a huge area of more than 900 sq km with diverse species. Although I didn't get the luck to spot tiger--the king of the forest--it's still cool to explore the jungle on the back of an elephant, or canoeing down Rapti river through the fog in the morning, or even grab a cold beer to see the sunset by the riverbank.

Pokhara

As the second biggest city of Nepal, Pokhara is a lot more layed back place than the busy capital Kathmandu. I enjoyed relaxing by the lakeside after my trek, paragliding to soar with the himalayan eagles and cycling around to explore the area.

Annapurna Circuit--Week 3

My last few days of the journey was going down down down from Marpha (2670m). It wasn't as easy as you thought either because of all the presure putting on your legs and feet. But as the vegetation gets greener on our way, the temperature goes up to a comfortable level as well. And after a bath in the hot spring in Tatopani and the outstanding view of sunrise on top of Poon Hill, all the musle pain heals. My 16-day trek ended in Nayapul (1070m) followed by a two-hour bus ride to Pokhara.

The most difficult part of the trek is to cross Thorung La Pass (5416m)--the world's biggest pass! So we started from Manang (3540m) up to the top and then went back down to the other side, passed over windy valley to Marpha (2670m). The scenary changed dramatically on our way.

Annapurna Circuit--Week 1

The amazing trek starts by a crazy local bus ride from Kathmandu to Besi Sahar(760m). And then we walked from there to Manang(3540m) following the beautiful Marsyandi River Valley in a week's time. It's hard sometimes on the road especially when you're having diarrhea, but the outstanding view of all the peaks in Himalaya is totally worth the pain!

Kathmandu

With all the crazy polluted traffic, garbage smells and loud pub music in Thamel, Kathmandu could be a very exhausting place when you first arrive. Take a walk in the backstreets, however, you'll find the capital is truely a living museum full of hidden temples, stupas, bahals (courtyard) and toles (square) filled with locals in their traditional Nepali life.

Cappadocia

This is one of the geological wonders of the world which makes you realize how capable mother nature is. Cappadocia is a high plateau in Central Turkey at an altitude of 3270 ft / 1000 m. The history of Cappadocia begins 60 million years ago with the eruption of 2 volcanos, covering the area with lava and tufa. In later periods rain and wind eroded the land and created unusual valleys, canyons and cones. For many centuries Hittites, Assyrian Colonies, Greeks and Romans lived in the region. Cappadocia is also a very important region in early Christian History. There are over 600 hundred rock-cut churches built by monks and hermits between the 4th and 11th centuries. In some of these, church walls have been decorated with wonderful frescoes depicting scenes from the Bible.
