35W Mississippi River Bridge Collapse
On Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at about 6.01 PM, the bridge of Highway 35W in Minneapolis Minnesota over the Mississippi River collapsed.
Some of my friends from the college group of my church and I were going to a Twins Baseball game later that evening, and we were driving along that highway. I was about 3 minutes late meeting my friends because my ride was late picking me up (I was letting my brother use the car at the time), and we were about 0.3 miles away from the bridge when it went down- about 3 minutes away from ground zero in the bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic.
We drove to a friend's house nearby, then I ran down to take pictures of the scene. However, after arriving in the fray I soon realized that I was one of the first people coming to help, and forsook my camera in favor of lending a hand. In between all the may lay, I was able to grab a few shots of heroes being born. These are the highlights.
