Ceasefire vigil

AI Group 23 held a vigil by the reflecting pool at the Rothko Chapel to call for a ceasefire in the Israel/Lebanon conflict, ask all governments to stop the supply of arms to all parties and stand in solidarity with the victims and survivors on both sides. Amnesty International USA's 2005 Annual General Meeting took place in Austin. It started with a rally against the death penalty at the Capitol. A large contingent of AI Group 23 members attended the meeting.

2004 Southern Regional Conference

Amnesty International USA's 2004 Southern Regional Conference took place in Houston. It started with a rally against the death penalty in front of the courthouse in downtown Houston. The conference proper was held at the Park Plaza Hotel near the Reliant Center. John Sullivan of AI Group 23 directed the theatrical performance at the close of the conference.

Interfaith panel discussion organized by AI Group 23. The panelists were Bishop Fiorenza, Bishop Blom, Rabbi Osadchey and Reverend Meeker-Williams. The panel discussion was preceded by a brief dramatic piece highlighting issues of retribution and reconciliation, performed by the Amnesty International Theater Troupe. Rodolfo Montiel

Mexican environmentalist Rodolfo Montiel Flores and Teodoro Cabrera spent two and a half years in prison on false charges before being released by President Vincente Fox under pressure from the international community. Montiel's U.S. speaking tour started in Houston in April 2003. Event organized by AI Group 516 (The Woodlands). Amnesty International Houston (AI Group 23).
