Long Reef Bombies were all-time for kiting. Too bad you can't really see them on any of these photos. Bad luck on the automatic shutter. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. Was great fun, if a bit freaky at times. Pete and Jun got some absolute screamers out there.

Here's how I mounted the Go Pro on my kite lines. I used a special 3M 300LSE double stick adhesive tape to attach the mount to a piece of construction scrap. Bought these little "wire clamps" from the local hardware store. The front lines go through the wire clamps, you tighten the nuts to hold the whole arrangement in place. Problem is you have to remove all the clamps each time you attach it to the lines.Haven't worked out a "quick disconnnect" mechanism yet. Still very much "proto" at this stage. I'm sure it will go through a number of evos before I settle on a final design. But it works for now til I think of something better.

Trying out an new camera mount for the GoPro Surf. I built a small block with an camera mount and attached it to the center lines of the kite about 1m above my head. The camera gets bounced around quite a bit, creating some bizarre effects. Overall, some interesting shots. Unfortunately on the day the wind was only about 8 knots and the surf about 2 ft so nothing spectacular but there is definitely room for some interesting potential.

Swell came in just as forecast--by 0700 at Dee Why there were 75+ surfers in the water at the Point alone. Some great waves and some great rides, but tense in the water. Warriwood, on the other hand was considerably smaller but far more mellow and matter-of-fact. Everyone was having a great time with zero aggro in the air.

Jaime Herriaz and the pro crew from North Kites along with John Messenger came to Long Reef on Wednesday last week and blew my mind. Wind was going 30-38 knots, the surf was head high and a half whitewater and there was a longshore current along the beach about 12 knots. Despite all that, these guys were going off, pulling some incredible moves that I never thought possible. Watched Jaime pull AND LAND a full backflip! (Photos 7, 8 and 9) RIDING A STRAPLESS SURFBOARD! How is that possible? Amazing stuff.

Rob and Tom take the day off and head south to Geroa. Tom's got a new Monkey Grifffin--the new Monkey flat kite that needs a good test. Locals reckon the wind never stops blowin in the summer when there's a nor'easter. Was 6-8 knots around the corner at Seven Mile Beach and 15-20 here all day. Verdict on the new kite -- all good. Loads of range, great turning speed, excellent hang time, manoeuverability, etc.

Kitemaking Workshop -- MADE IN AUSTRALIA!
A group of us got together with the naive intention of making our own kites for kitesurfing, thinking it would take a weekend or so. 160 or so odd hours later, about four or five of us out of about 10 finished our kites. I'll never complain about the price of kites again...A great learning experience!
