Lea Poliat - 1916-2009 - Drawings and family photos
Lea Poliat, 93, of Portland Oregon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 26, 2009, in Portland, OR. Born in Niepolomice, Poland, married 70 years to David Poliat (orig. Polyatchek) (1917-2007) and daughter of Salomon (Saul) and Francesca (Franja) Soldinger. She is survived by son, Frank Poliat and her niece Suzanne Cassidy Vischer and nephew Dan Bletterman. Lea & her family emigrated in the 30’s, to Antwerp, Belgium. She, David and their families fled Europe as part of the Jewish exodus, one step ahead of the German invasion. They settled in NYC. In the early 1950‘s she, David and Frank moved to Montevideo, resettling in NYC around 1955, moving once again, in 1963 to Madrid, Spain where they lived perhaps their happiest years. Lea and David returned to the US in the late 1980’s, to Oakland CA, finally moving to Portland OR in 2000. Lea spoke about 7 or 8 languages. She was a gifted interior and clothing designer as well. Lea had a delightful sense of humor that never left her.
