Family Day at the Abenaki Traditional Garden - July 12
The Abenaki Traditional Garden is a partnership of the St. Francis/Sokoki band of the Abenaki Nation of Missiquoi, Burlington Area Community Gardens (BACG), the Intervale Center, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the UVM Environmental Program.
Located at the Healthy City Commons field, the demonstration garden contains varieties of corn, squash, and beans that are derived from those believed to have been cultivated in this area by the Abenaki.
A celebration and family-friendly community event was held in partnership with the Taste of Champlain, part of the Burlington International Waterfront Festival. The event will include a wild edibles tour by Nova Kim and Les Hook, pizza making with NOFA-VT, grain-to-dough with City Market, cooking with stones in traditional clay pots with Charles Paquin, and story telling and braid making by Rachel Whitebear, garden tours, and more!
