2011 GHT to Mugu

More glorious trekking! After Pho, the last village on the high route, we trekked seven days without villages over three challenging 5000m+ passes. This section of the GHT is extremely challenging, needing excellent crew, porters and trekkers, and good conditions - which we had. We finished in Talcha, the airport by Rara Lake, everybody happy after an incredible 42 day exploratory trek experience. This is the last album of the 2011 GHT 4 part series. Project-Himalaya.com.

2011 GHT across Dolpo

Classic, glorious trekking! After pioneering a new route from Upper Mustang to Dolpo, now we trek across Upper Dolpo, but still with some exploration. The standard route between Shimen and Pho goes via Saldang and a particularly high pass, we set out to find a more direct way with lower passes. Thanks to Hari and the horse team that continued, our star crew and to the friendly villages... day after day of incredible trekking! 2011 GHT to Dolpo

After Upper Mustang we start the real exploring, waiting first for the harvest to finish. After acclimatizing we crossed a challenging series of passes to Upper Dolpo, a route that no other commercial trekking group has ever attempted (thanks, Paulo Grobel). They were tough passes that I can't readily recommend. Amazingly on the 42 day trek after leaving Lo Monthang we only met one other trekking group to Mugu and that was Kim's (also Project Himalaya!) Dolpo trek team, and we were trekking at the most popular season, which shows how isolated our route was :) This is the 2nd of four albums of our 2011 GHT Dolpo Wild exploratory trek. 2011 GHT Mustang

We set out to find new trekking trails for the Great Himalaya Trail on a 42 day trek across a quarter of Nepal. Upper Mustang is gorgeous trekking, here we trek with two teams of friends. 2011 Zanskar Bear Valley

Stunning! Here is our special "Bear Valley" route that still virtually no other trekking companies use. Sure it is a bit tricky for the horses, but ultimately no problem for our star crew, and it is well worth it! Judge for yourself. 2011 Zanskar Phuktal to Padum

We continue our Zanskar trek. Taking a rest day at Purne, we hike up to the stunning Phuktal Gompa. Then we keep trundling following the river Mune where we take a jeep to Padum and spend a day there for the staff to resupply and for the horses catch up. Lastly we stay at the expansive Honara camp ready for the next section.

2011 Project Himalaya Aconcagua Expedition We trek in to Plaza Argentina Base Camp over three days, it was squally, wet weather. Miriam and Demet joined for the trek, then after a couple of nights at BC returned to Mendoza while we carried on climbing.

2010 GHT Phu and Kang La

Continuing, Phu village blew us away, as did the Mahendra Pul (bridge) and already acclimatized, we camped near the top of the 5400m Kang La. Coming down was, well, coming down, and we schlepped along through Ngawal to the main trail and along to Dharapani.
