Costa Rica & Belize (Motorcycle Trip)
Our college academic advisers were recommending my peers and I to find a summer internship. So between my junior and senior year of nursing school I committed to volunteer for 10 weeks at a free clinic and assist in construction projects in a small barrio outside of San Jose, Costa Rica. I decided I would motorcycle as far as Belize and fly the rest. I did some research, read some books, and talked to a lot of people. I left from my folks' house in northern New Jersey at an average of 700-800 miles per day in the States (and Canada on the return) and about half that in Mexico and Belize. The longest day I spent on the road was around 16 hours. I allotted 2-weeks for either direction, ample time, but I wanted to sightsee along the way and detour -sometimes forced (in Mexico) -sometimes desired (States).
