Timpanooke Trailhead 5:15a.m.
At 5:15a.m., it was very dark. We're lucky we got a few people in the frame.
At the Giant Staircase. We had to stash some of the weight people packed to help lighten their burden.
Finally after nearly 2 hours, the sun starts to light our path.
The troop takes a break near an ephemeral falls.
Our leader, pointing the way. The Timp summit in the background is our goal.
A view of the "glacier" to the left of the Timp massif.
The scouts are loving every minute of this.
These planes flew by just as we reached the saddle. Someone commented they had never been above a plane without being in one.
Utah Valley, from the Timp Saddle
Still happy to be here.
Timp Basin below Robert's Horn. The Emerald Lake basin is in the upper right corner.
Taking a break at the saddle, looking north
Some of the trail we covered. We never had a problem tracking Mason (look for the orange dot).
Great view from near the summit. I'm proud of everyone who joined us on this journey.
Inside the summit shack. Bro. Robb outside checking for reception. BTW, the shack was used for surveying triangulation before the days of GPS satellites.
We made it! Now where's the bus that's going to get us off of this thing?
A view back at the summit. Part of the group stopped to discuss our accomplishment.
Looking down at Robert's Horn and Deer Creek Reservoir.
The Alpine Ridge is just barely visible above one of the "stairs" in the Giant Staircase.
A view back at the mountain after 11 hours of hiking. What a day, what an adventure! Loved every minute of it. Thanks everyone!
