"I guess in the long run it could have it's advantages, but as far as having to frame with it, seems like a pain in the ass."
Jeremy Finn
"It is a ton of extra work.  For this project the customer wanted the extra room for air over the insulation.  Being "worth it" depends on point of view.  This house had long spans and couldn't be trussed."
Tim Uhler
"Seems like a lot of extra work to frame the roof with those I-joists?  Is it worth it?"
Jeremy Finn
"Me too!"

"This is why i like my job. When in doubt, I google!"

"Sim, Thank you for the comments.

I don't really feel that I know what I'm doing.  I really need to study up on this stuff, there was definitely trial and error involved ;-)

I need to sit down and really get my head into this kind of thing again.  But at the same time, I'm not sure I'll see another one like this.

Your app was a big help.  I hope it sells well.  "

"If the hip rake wall pitch angle is off by 1/2 degree or so and  the plan angle is off by a degree or two it effects the hip rake wall stud miter angle. The hip rake wall miter angle is just the hip rafter plumb backing angle.

This house has once again has  shown your knowledge of framing that makes other builders look like apprentice carpenters and builders.

I can't remember any house I've framed with that many different angles to solve."

"Rafter Tools gave  me 37.7° for the bevel and 26.56° for the miter.  "
Tim Uhler
"I did, but I think I did it wrong.  I had 120° entered for the plan angle.  I think we used 38 for the bevel (the saw was a bit off because its been banged around) and 22 for the miter.  They were really close.  "
Tim Uhler
"Did the Rafter Tools rake wall stud miter and bevel angle work? Did you use the Plan A Rake Wall calculator?"
Sim Ayers
"This room will be real nice as a finished product, with the 4:12 dormers and 12:12 main rafters. Looks like nice lighting from the windows as well."
Sim Ayers
"As long as it worked, it was the smart /correct way to establish the valley intersection points."
Sim Ayers
"Ouch!!!, scribe and cut only."
Sim Ayers
"It definitely worked out. You might have to patent the design. "
Sim Ayers
"I didn't figure it out exactly, but basically yes it is.  I always wanted to make the undersides meet for a nice drywall line.  So then the top would offset.  It worked out better than I could have hoped."
