"Hi Ben! You funny!"
Carlos Simoes
"Note that the seam is folded down pointing toward the rear of the kite for maximum aerodynamics."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"The plan is - expanding on a kite by John Rose - based on idea John had from a kite by Dr. Wilson - to have 5 colors on the internal ribs of an otherwise all white exterior kite. When the sun is behind and through the kite the colors should glow through the white skins. This is just the fabric laying on the table in a flash photo."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"This is one of Bas' great kites. Fully appliqued. Very inspiring."

"The center pulled together to show 3d view. Threads trimmed and melted. Careful with the lighter - you can see where I melted the fabric too in this quick example."

"The center pulled together to show 3d view. Threads untrimmed."

"From the top add a third stitch across the center keeping all seams flat. This stitch is primarily astetic so that the center is symetrical."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"The view of the stitched center from the other side. Note I failed to lock stitch the first seam - went back and redid that later but should have done it first."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"Finished second stitch. First stitch was folded flat (tip is just visible sticking out on rights side purple). Then light colored corner of third panel laid over it - it will not be 100% flat but manipulate it as close as can be - then sew down second reinforced corner - lock stitch and across and lock stitch. This yields a corner that has two directions of fabric crossing and only a 4 layer seam sewn flat. It is thus not bulky and self reinforced."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"Fold back two untrimmed corners. Lay one light color untrimmed corner across opposite dark panel. Stitch this down - lock stitch at corner tip - sew across 2 layers and an equal amount into light colored panel (for outside appearance only)."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"Detail of sewn 6 panels and untrimmed corners of light panels."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"All seams sewn. Center untrimmed corners (at least two) are not yet attached."
Thomas Benjamin "...
"Lining up final seam. Sew from center out same as before."
