Phase III - Landscape and Site

Photos of sitework which happened primarily during the spring and summer of 2011. Retaining walls, decks, bio-retention beds, vegetable beds, bed edging, grading, erosion control. The list goes on!

Phase III - Open House May 2011

This weekend our team hosted a "soft opening" of the New Norris House to celebrate the completion of major construction. There is lots more to do and details to resolve, but this event was a welcomed termination of two semesters of work by design|build studio/seminar participants. Many parents, supporters, and community members were in attendance for this event and we look forward to hosting many more in the future.

Phase III - Interior Work

Interior work begins on the home, though for the fall the larger emphasis is drying in the home. (Completing siding, windows, and roof installations.)

Phase III - Siding

We will be utilizing a vertical wood rainscreen. The choice of wood is Atlantic White Cedar (a local wood that is resistant to water) treated with Cabbot's bleaching oil. Horizontal furring strips, under an insect screen, and finally the vertical siding itself make up the facade system.

Phase III - Cistern Wall

The rear end of the home will house a large, 400 gallon cistern. As consequence of Clayton's manufacturing processes (which limit some dimensional aspects of the design) and a desire by UT to control this critical space as much as possible, this portion of the home was built by UT students.

Phase III - Windows

The house is using two different systems of windows: operable Anderson casement windows and self-made stopped in windows. The UT fabricated windows have been an exercise in craft and the science of window flashing.
