89) Quisa Sibilas Quisa Sombras - 07 - 280$ This painting responds to a poem of my friend Manuel Luna, “Una Mujer un vestido rojo”. It’s a very strong poem, about a woman that loses her son at the borders. It has lots of political and social meanings, but also simply talks about a pain so deep that it becomes madness. I know that pain, I have seen it. I was thinking of the poem while painting, but also of some dreams of mine where I saw women with huge open internal cavities in their chest, through which they could feel and understand things at a very different level. Women like Sibilas… Like Cassandras. Sorry if the concept is a bit dark, for some… This is what the painting is about.
Little Eva – 84 – 40$ Long time ago, from a quantity of illustrations and nursery paintings (many more are available for children rooms)
Vicki is not dead – 95 - 75$ Toti says"It belongs to a series of etchings on the same theme. Refers to a twin/sister recurrent dream" (to the side of the fireplace)edit
Minotaur My Love – 99 – 240$ A relatively old piece, this is not a collage, only a pastel, but it still comes in bits and pieces… like whatever I do. Once, in this Poetry salon I defined Love as a Monster. Somebody felt kind of offended, thinking that Monster is bad and Love good. Well, Monster has never been bad for me. “Monster” is any reality composed by incongruous parts that supposedly shouldn’t belong. But sometimes they want to and they just come together, creating a Monster. That can be adorable indeed, and I really love Minotaur.
Resurrection of Virtue #1 – 02 - 180$ This belongs to a series of collages that involve words and figure drawing. Most drawing interpret the sculptures of one of my favorite artist, Cecilia Miguez. Like most of my work, please take this like a strange charade… I’m sure you can solve it
Selfportrait at 43 (Soulsearch) – 02 – 150$ It is an intimate portrait, thinking of when I was a schoolgirl
Je ne croisrais je qu'a toi Belongs to a series called "jenecroiraisquatoi", a phonetical rendition of a French sentence that could roughly translate into "Iwontbelievebutyou". The all series refers to the fact that, especially when big and painful deals are at stake, it is difficult to establish where the truth lies and who really can tell it. We end up with the need of making a choice, of believing, more than what it's said, what our feelings tell us, what we perceive in the sphere of our emotions and feelings. And the other image is Diego kissing her on her death bed, since, contrasting with what everyone would think, he had the strength of accompanying her in her agony and loving her until the last instant. History is not always the official one, not exactly. There are subtleties... were truth hides. They belong to the heart.
Je ne croirais qu'a toi Those two paintings belong to a series called "jenecroiraisquatoi", a phonetical rendition of a French sentence that could roughly translate into "Iwontbelievebutyou". So I chose Frida with a letter in her hands, like if she just read in that letter a truth that would, for example, deepen and steady her profound affection for Diego, her certainty of his worthiness, in spite and above what everybody had to say of his infidelities.
