Introducing Business Processes

During this assignment I worked in a team on the case of the Nokia N-gage. This is the first gaming phone of Nokia. The Nokia N-Gage failed on the market, having sold just 2 million units across two product releases in 2003 and 2004, far short of its goal of 6 million sales. The task was to find out why it failed using different business process analysis tools like a MIR analysis, Ishikawa and an IDEF analysis.

Reflection as a mirror on learning

I followed this assignment as additional help on improving my reflective skills. And therefore my goal for this assignment was to improve my reflections. But during the process I saw that I was learning a lot more than only to reflect. I was working my becoming aware of my way of learning, aware of my own learning process. I wrote every piece of reflection down in my learning journal, wich you can find if you click on the REPORT button. Now that I am aware of my process, I think the next step is to try to improve and change it in such a way that I can direct my own learning process. When I am able to do that, I think I will reach the state of depth on the competency self-directed and continuous learning.

21st Century graffiti

Graffiti has been around us for ages. About 20 years ago, with the birth of the spray can, graffiti was seen as a hip and new way of expressing yourself. Nowadays graffiti is old fashion. Tags, designs and stencils are still made with pen, paper and ink, as we are living in a computer-based century. So why is the world of graffiti still behind? It is time for a shift in this particular branch of art. To goal of this project was to develop a new method for graffiti artists, so that they can design their art digitally and use our device to create their piece of art in a public space. Vertical Light

People use time as a reason to take either the elevator or the stairs. They are aware of the duration of a certain action and give value to this duration. But the awareness of people isn’t enough to give them an accurate number of the actual duration. Therefore they make the wrong choices which can lead to habits. One of the conclusions from the research phase was that people take the elevator as a habit. People on the stairs declared that they took the stairs because it was quicker than the elevator. Another part of the research made clear that waiting for the elevator can take a lot of time. The people waiting forgot that they have a choice and that the stairs could be faster. The goal is to make people aware of this choice. This will be done by confronting those who usually take the elevator with the actual time that they are waiting.

Discrete Interaction Design

This assignment is mainly focussed on User Focus and Perspective. Interaction Design: Create optimal behaviours for products, systems or services within the context of their use. Design the discrete tangible and intangible elements that create an experience (response/action/challenge) for the user of a product, system or service. Students will learn to use formal specification methods as input for the implementation of a mid-fidelity prototype. They will gain hands-on experience in (1) using a formal specification as (2) input for creating a prototype, and (3) planning and conducting an empirical evaluation. They will experience how to optimise the trade-offs inherent in conducting prototyping and usability testing under 'real-life' constraints.
