The Good Ol' Hockey Game

It was -20 but sunny, so we went skating. It was just some unorganised shooting of pucks for a while, so I skated in circles and got in the way of passes. Eventually my fellow non-hockey players (who, judging by their accents, were foreign exchange students) gave up and went home, and a game of shinny was had. I reverted to photographer mode, since I'm barely able to stop on skates, let alone change direction and aim a puck.

Seattle and California Vacation

I flew out early to visit Jacks, then met Brad in San Francisco. From there we checked out Big Basin Redwoods State Park (rainforest), a bunch of State Beaches, Red Rocks Canyon State Park (desert), Sequoia National Park (mountain), and finished our stay at a hostel on a point within half an hour of the airport (the originally planned campground was full). We hit just about every climate California has to offer and didn't even have too much driving. And the only things we lost were our water bottles! (Sadly, they had nice lids and mine was covered in stickers from everywhere.) Conclusions: Sequoia and Yosemite would be great to spend at least a week visiting. In the summer. When there's no snow. San Francisco is huge. California State Parks are awesome and in an unfortunate budget crisis. I want it to be spring now. Right now.

Gardening and other domestic pursuits

Waiting for approval to start my Master's, I've become a housegirlfriend. Half the time it drives me nuts and half the time it's lovely. Here are the results. We dug up the grass in the and put in some plants. The landlord is resigned to looking after our perennials forever, and the neighbours are thrilled we're doing something, seeing as there's been nothing in our yard but clovery grass and a peonie bush for twenty years. We're definitely the rundown house of the street.

Back Bay Mission, Biloxi

Skipped a week of classes to go help build houses in Mississippi. Spent my week installing wiring, air conditioning, insulation, and paint. There was some tourism involved here and there too.

Holguin

Six weeks in Cuba: getting a tan, taking pictures, drinking cheap rum, lounging on the beach, wandering Holguin, bussing twelve hours to Havana, wandering Havana, eating, sleeping, climbing the loma, eating ice cream, swatting flies, sleeping (or not) through ranas croaking, riding guaguas and coches, getting sunburned, getting hit on, getting whistled at, getting lost, loving the scenery, loving the climate, and, oh yeah, learning a bit of Spanish too.

Algonquin Fall 2007

Thanksgiving long weekend: trip to Algonquin! We had steak instead of turkey and pancakes for breakfast so were back a fair few hours later than imagined. Goooood times!
