Start of the run. Steve & Paul (xjr4buddha on Twitter) stride purposefully to the start, whilst Harry surveys for possible Swan attacks.
A bridge over the Thames near the start
Paul (Run Yank Run) in the foreground, another Paul (xjr4buddha on Twitter) photographing me, and Mark in the background.
The race is finally underway! I was obviously a bit behind these guys.
A motley crew if every I saw one: (left to right) Mark, Steve Chopper (A Mile with me), Gary Wall, Harry, Paul (Run Yank Run), and Richard
Some canal boats on the Thames, south of Oxford.
Canal boats on the Thames
A bridge over the Thames (south of Oxford)
Our run was nearly brought to an abrupt end when we found part of the path closed! Never mind, only a 1.5 mile detour...
A canal boat going through one of the locks on the Thames.
The other runners disappearing in to the distance. That's Harry at the back. Nice to see his fellow runners compassionately disappearing in to the distance (don't worry, they slowed up for us both)
This is the narrow path...probably a bit like the one Krister runs on in Sweden? We had to run single file on this one. Not sure if I was at the front on this one, or maybe way behind.
Ah, there's Paul (Run Yank Run) in the distance.
No surprises for guessing this one, it's the river Thames. I think we were getting close to the half way point around now.
As you can see. I spent a lot of time running behind the others. That's Richard at the back, with Mark just ahead of him.
This is where we met up with the 10K runners. OK, left to right: Sheila's husband, Sheila, Drusy, Paul
Sheltering from the rain at the 10K start. Left to right : Steve Chopper, Paul, Gary, someone with his arms folded (sorry) and Mark.
Steve Chopper extolling the virtues of drinking his own urine (just kidding!). We all stopped at the 10K start to re-fuel (thanks to Drusy), and shelter from the rain for a few minutes.
Still a the 10K start. Phil Moneypenny (Snowshadow) sets up his video camera, watched by his sister. Steve Chopper edges to the start of the pack, to make sure of a good position for the video as we set off :)
Unsurprisingly, a bridge. A metal bridge. Oh, and there's a boat as well.
It's Krister (Running the Narrow Path) having a chat with Mark. Harry has his head down, digging deep. Oh, and there's that fellow who's name I can't remember again. I think that's Drusy and a few others at the back there.
Yep, this is Drusy approaching with her dog. I think thatt's Tineke (who's name I always get wrong) on the bike - she couldn't run due to a cold, but turned up anyway to cheer us on :)
Here we go, the glamorous end of the field (left to right): it's Drusy, Phil's sister (who's name I've forgotten) and Sheila.
Someone coming over a little footbridge, not to far fom the end. Not sure who it is, could be Drusy's son...?
Now, those 2 people at the front were a couple of innocent bystanders caught in this shot - I have no idea who they are, but they are certainly better dressed for this weather than us lot. Behind is Drusy, having a chat with Gary, and Harry still digging deep.
Now, I may be imagining it, but I don't think Drusy looks too happy in this shot. Harry is striding out, about to overtake the 2 unsuspecting runners ahead.
Another brief break to shelter from the rain and let everyone have a quick break. We were pretty wet by now, and I'm betting Krister (front right) is starting to wonder if its always this rainy in the UK.
I ran on ahead to get this shot as our trusty band of runners are striding out on the approach to Oxford. I think the fisherman had the best idea...we should have nicked his brolly.
Richard & somone whose name I've forgotten at the front (please let me know), followed by Harry & Mark having a chat. I think that's Krister & Gary just behind them.
Here's Drusy & her son, followed by Sheila, Tineke on a bike & Phil's sister.
Arrived at Oxford at last. We left the river here and did a little tour of the city. We're all admiring some more boats. Front to back: Mark, Drusy, her son, Gary, Krister, Harry & Sheila.
Pounding the streets of Oxford, much to the bemusement of the locals.
An historic looking building...I've no idea what it is, but it looks jolly impressive.
Now, I'm guessing this is a big church, but I don't know which one. Again, very impressive & historic looking. Excuse my ignorance.
Our soaked runners trudging around in front of more historic buildings...all feeling a bit cold and tired now.
We're there at last!!! The historic race track where Roger Bannister broke the 4 minute mile record.
Sheila, showing us she's made it!
Some tired and wet runners deciding which way to run around the track for the best pics.
Phil going to set up his camera, with Mark doing the 2 handled tea-pot impression in the foreground. Steve Chopper (top bloke) getting ready to run in the background.
And here it is! The moment we'd all been waiting for, our mile around the Iffley Road track. Awesome!!!
Sheila, Gary & Harry crossing the finishing line and ending an absolutely awesome day. Massive thanks to Steve Chopper for organising an awesome event which everyone absolutely loved.
(Pic from Mark) - At the start of the race. Top row left to right: Paul, Richard, Nigel, Harry, Mark. Bottom row left to right: Paul, Steve, Gary.
(Pic from Mark) - Getting ready to start. Paul & Nigel have an equipment chat, with Paul (Run Yank Run) in the foreground.
(Pic from Mark) - Phil & Nigel head for the finish line...sadly, nowhere near Roger Bannister's 4 minute mile :)
(Pic from Mark) - Some rather damp, but happy runners who have had a great day. And, we even got medals, courtesy of the kindness of Steve Chopper.
(Pic from Mark) - Gary, Steve, Krister & Nigel having a laugh in the pub, after stuffing their faces ready for the WWFoR the following morning.
(Pic from Sheila) -
(Pic from Sheila) - It's Krister (Running The Narrow Path) in front of an historic building in Oxford...I have no idea which one, but it looks very impressive & historic...and old.
(Pic from Sheila) - Here come the WWFoR beef cakes!...particularly that good looking chap on the right. It's : Mark, Steve (jostling again for a good photo opportunity), Paul and Nigel.
(Pic from Sheila) - Here's those hunks again.
(Pic from Sheila) - ...and another one...a real treat for the ladies seeing these fine figures of man-hood.
(Pic from Sheila) - ..yep, and another one...maybe that chap on the right in the white shirt could use a bit of Photoshop touching up now he's a bit closer. Glad to see his shorts aren't exploding this week.
Here come Richard, Gary and another stray runner who joined us along the way.
(Pic from Sheila) - Richard, Gary and the mystery runner again. We were pretty wet by now. I'm not sure what that car was doing parked there...probably a woman driver who got lost and decided to leave it for her husband to pick up later (I wonder how many complaints I'll get about that comment...it was a joke)
(Pic from Sheila) - Yep, there they are again. Looks like Gary is having a good chat. He like zombie movies, but apart from that, he's a good egg. :)
(Pic from Sheila) - Here comes Harry & Paul with that chap whose name I can't remember at the back. Paul is a 'serious' runner. He does some serious miles...though I'm sure he does a few light-hearted ones as well.
(Pic from Sheila) - Go Harry & Paul!
(Pic from Sheila) - Say cheese!
