Halloween 2012 Q

Photos by Qingzhang Zeng, an ESL student when he volunteered last year, now in a Ph.D. program, in Engineering, at UD. He drove 1 hour, each way, bringing 4 ESL friends, to volunteer while Q took photos that will be seen around the world. I wonder what his Dad, in China, will think about our madness. Q and friends loved the event and our post event Pasta dinner. They were amazed by the good natures and cooperation of our Police and UCD Ambassadors. I am grateful for Q's photos. I see events like this as opportunities for Diplomacy (across oceans and across the lines normally drawn for age, race, money, religion and careers). West Philly showed its beautiful energy on Halloween!

The 2012 theme was "DERBY at DeSALES". Dinner was catered by GOLD STANDARD. SECOND VISION played. Rod Boston created wonderful back drops for the stage and a photo area. It was the first DeSales Night for Father Hand. Ticket holders were all "winners" as the ate, dance and re-connected with neighbors. SFDS 2011

The theme of the 2011 "De Sales Night" annual dinner dance was CARMEN. The SECOND VISION BAND played from 8 PM to Midnight. Dinner was catered by Gold Standard. Local teens donated their time and talent as food service, bussing and coat check teams. The Choir decorated the Hall and Tables and neighbors had a great time, (possibly due to the generous bar set-up).

SFDS NIGHT 2010

The 2010 theme embraced BASEBALL with "Take me out to DeSales Night". Dinner was prepared by Gold Standard Restaurant. The Band was Vince Celenza's SECOND VISION, website at www.2ndVision.com for more info. The St. Francis School hall was decorated with large paintings by Rod Boston with added interest on the windows, walls and tables done by volunteers that included Susan Weiler and the extended Boston Family. The Supple Family recruited lots of volunteers to check coats, serve food, bus tables and clean up. Most notable might be Lauren and Kevin at the Open bar, Richard Pogue at the Soda Station and Chris Allegra and Wayne in the Kitchen. This was Father Bier's first DeSales night.

2009

2009 was a year of extremes. The year began and ended with deaths of wonderful young people, Kam on 1/1/2009 and Moses on 12/18/2009. These tragic losses remind me that many of our "successes" require some luck-blessing along with talent and hard work. Money was tight but our kids made us proud. Katie got her first "career" job and Michael graduated from High School and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Larry loves his job and I have loyal clients and new prospects who appreciate my experience and persistence. I am grateful for work, to survive in these recessionary times. I love friends and family and hope to see more of our favorite people in 2010. I take 1,000s of photos. This Album reflects my attempt to choose the most interesting &/or photogenic activities of the year, in date order. Halloween 2009

Photos from the Halloween Haunted Garden. Almost 2,000 visitors braved rain and delayed their enjoyment of Game 2 of the World Series to enjoy this annual event. Garden, Decorations and Full Sized Candy at Station #1 provided by Realtor Liz Campion and the Motyka Family. Hugs, Treats, Bag and original idea coordinated by Cynthia Preston and the Squirrel Hill Town Watch and Police Substation. Additional candy by the grace of many generous neighbors. Set-up and break down assisted by the children of St. Frances de Sales and many kind neighbors. Thriller-ing by Underground Dance Works produced by Rashida Holmes, directed by Charles Tyson. Live performances and candy distribution at 6 stations by professional actors and talented amatuers. Major post celebration block clean-up coordinated by Dexter Bryant of UCD.

Halloween 2009 Pro Shots

One of the coolest things about our Halloween is the number of friends and neighbors who volunteer to decorate, distribute, perform &/or donate treats. As you can see this is a very inclusive event that attracts singlles and big families, young, old, rich, poor, recent immigrants and neighborhood stalwarts. We are currently seeking new and esperienced Volunteers for our 2010 event. One of our goals is to make a public record so that kids who might not have easy access to photos can access these at school or from public libraries, print them or forward to relatives. H 2008 Decorations

These photos let you see the details and decorations of the HALLOWEEN HAUNTED GARDEN. They do not convey the special effects of Smoke & Bubble machines, Sound Effect CDs, Strobe Lights or animated decorations. They can't capture the extemporaneous thrills delivered by volunteer actors. BSA 152 Eagle Candidate, Michael Motyka recruited volunteers from St. Francis de Sales, West Catholic, the Boy Scouts, neighbors, friends and family. Cynthia Preston, our QUEEN of HALLOWEEN for the 12th consecutive year, collected and collated enough treats to fill 9 distribution stations and the Campion-Motyka family donated a 10th.
