Sri Lanka 2011

Our seventh visit to the mysitcal land of Sri Lanka--a land like no other. It was our eighth International build as Habitat for Humanity team leaders. Our Gobal Village team built 7 houses in the jungles of Matele. We celebrated our 40th anniversary on this trip.

Our trip to Italy with Barbara and Mike was long overdue. So was our visit to Bernie’s cousins Charles and Françoise in Paris. So like Roman Legionnaires, Bernie and Barb marched us across Italy form the Lake Region in the north to Venice, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Sorrento and Pompeii, and on to Rome and Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera.

Habitat Philippines 07

We took over 100 Dhahran High School students over a five year period to build houses in Sri Lanka and in the Philippines. This was our last and largest trip to Tagaytay in the Phillipines.

Martin went with us for 23 days in Karela India. Bonnie had to go to a family funeral in Colorado and we all missed her. We visited Sheyla and her family in Kochi.

Terry and Cheryl and we spend Christmas 2003 visiting the Amboseli National Park, Lake Naivasha, the Masi Mara National Game Reserve and the island of Mombasa in Kenya.

Medain Saleh Saudi Arabia 03

Some Dhahran HS teachers went to the Nabataean settlement at Medain Saleh in NW Saudi Arabia. Hunderds of rock carved tombs predated those in Petra by several centuries. We also saw the remains of the Hijaz Railroad that was used to carry pilgrims to Mecca in the early ninteen hundreds.

Bangkok was a regular stop. In 1999 we asked Mari to join us in Thailand for tree weeks in Chang Mai and Phuket. With toes curled in the sand of the Anadaman Sea, Bernie, Dave and Mari watched the sun set on the second millennium...

Completing our second round the world trip we stopped in Ireland. We had beautiful weather for our week on the Emerald Isle. Great B & Bs and narrow roads ... we drove on the left (most of the time.) We found the McHughs' and the O'Donnells' stomping grounds.

Northern Pakistan 97

Upon her return from India after biking from Mumbai to Goa, Mary visited Northern Pakistan. When Rob and Tina visited in June of 1997 we went to the Swat Valley.

Our first Christmas in Pakistan, Mary came to visit. We went to India to see the Taj Mahal and the city of Jaipur. We traveled by train from Deli to Agra, by bus to Jaipur and took a taxi back to Deli. Mary left us in Jaipur after buying a bike. She biked with a French girl from Mumbi to Goa.
