Beginning of the Highline. A few blocks south on Washington and Horatio.
The entrance to the Highline, with lots of bike racks (no bikes are allowed in the Park).
A view south
How the concrete surface turns into a bench.
Keep it Wild; Keep on the Path
A view looking south as the Park jogs slightly to the east.
A view of a bench, and the underside of the new Standard Hotel, which straddles the park "like a lap dance." (Quote is not mine)
Another view looking south from underneath the Standard.
Looking north after passing underneath the hotel.
West-facing benches for loungin'.
Some of the benches can slide along the existing rail.
Looking south. I just love the layering . . .
A spur disappears into the building . . .
Looking north, suspended above 10th Avenue. Steps down create seating to watch the street-life below. Reminds me a bit of the TKTS stairs in Times Square.
The twists and turns provide great views in all directions. Including this one towards the Statue of Liberty.
Ms. Liberty
Gehry's IAC Building on 11th. I liked the juxtaposition.
Another one.
A view northeast, with the Empire State Building in the distance.
I believe this was east down 20th Street and the Theological Seminary to the north.
The end of the 'line. Well, at least the end of the park. The actual railway continues for another ten blocks.
Looking back south . . .
