A jumble of ruins. Relatively unprotected. Everything just lying around.
This is the mountain where they quarried all the marble. It is named Mycale. At least they could tumble the pieces downhill.

Coming across the Temple of Athena

The Temple of Anthena. This temple was the model on which all subsequent Ionic temples were based. Alexander the Great stayed in this town in 334 BC.

The flat plains below used to be The Agean Sea. The River Maeander filled it all in with silt.

There were very few people at this site when we visited. It is mostly controlled by lizards.
The last remnant of the Temple of Apollo. The rest was carted off to Berlin. Between the Germans and the Brits, all the good stuff was taken away from this site and stored in The British Museum or the Pergamon Museum.
