Here we are pre-rocks or anything else in 2006.
I was starting to dump the rocks on the fabric.
Here's what the side yard looked like in May. I'd started doing the rocks the previous summer but then decided i didn't want the whole thing to be rocks. Note that the parking strip has not yet been rocked either.
After the fence and rocks but before the blocks
The beginning phase of putting in the landscaping blocks
End of day 1. I got about 36 blocks installed. Surprisingly most of the work goes into making sure everything is level. 1 part brute force, 3 parts detail work
After day 2...It doesn't look like much but it took a lot of time!
For day 3 a different perspective. I didn't put much time in today but got the walls back-filled. I used the landscape fabric as a barrier behind the walls so that weeds won't grow through and soil won't spill out.
Day 4 and we're ALMOST done! I thought I'd put myself in this one so you can see how filthy I am. I've been wearing these same clothes (no washing) every time I've worked on the blocks.
Blurry side picture :(
Yet another blurry side picture :(
This is the result of my 5th day of work. I got the 2nd planter finished out and the raised wall behind it in. I only have 6 more blocks to go!
Side shot on day 5. I need to get a sidwalk in there!
Finally got a good concrete guy to come out and put the forms in. Alfredo did a great job!
Yay! Finally got the path poured. Notice the steps are a little unique. I think they look like a waterfall. And they make it easy to get the wheelbarrow up and down the stairs!
A proud and excited home owner. That's a wrap!
A better look at the stairs and their shape.
I took advantage of the warm weather to get the sidewalk all sealed. The color finally darkened how I wanted it.
A view from ground level.
Detail of the stamp and color. Not sure what the brown area is, maybe my head?
