Social Ice 2012

Every year they build a bunch of ice sculptures and an ice bar (or many) for folks to come out and enjoy. Each night there's a live band and a lot of folks take part. These pics are from very early the second night.

Take-out Picnic

Strangely we can't find good Chinese takeout in town so we occasionally drive up to Logandale and have a picnic in Overton at the park. This was a very needed trip out of town.

McIlhenny Tabasco Pepper Sauce Factory

While waiting for my server to get power (as usual), I played hookey and ran over to check out the Tabasco factory. Didn't get a lot of pics as I left my digital camera behind and have a small collection of bad pics from a disposable I didn't upload.

Mono in the snow

On the way back from a visit home for Christmas we ran into a massive blizzard and had to deviate through New Mexico. The first pics are from a gas station in what I think was Melrose, NM. The other pics are video are from the next day at a rest stop west of Flagstaff, AZ where we let a very cooped up Mono run off some steam.

Crystal Symphony - November 18, 2006 - Antigua

Another quick stop, this time in Antigua. Did not have time to do much more than do some last minute souvenir shopping and catch lunch before heading back to the ship.

Crystal Symphony - November 17, 2006 - St. Maarten

Docked in St. Maarten and rented a van with Mark, Pete, and April and tooled around both the both Dutch and French sides. Shopped in Philipsburg and lunched in Marigot. It was an early day of work so we wrapped up early in the afternoon.

Crystal Symphony - November 16, 2006 - St. Barts

We stopped on St. Barts on a rainy day. April, Mark, Pete and I rented a little jimney and tooled around the island checking out the scene. The weather intruded on having a fun filled day but it was a good day to get off the ship.

Crystal Symphony - November 14, 2006 - Grand Turk

The first stop of the cruise was on Grand Turk. Very calm but economically depressed area. Ran around Victoria town and then caught up with my co-worker Rick Hall who chipped in on a taxi that took up up to a lighthouse at the north side of the island. Later caught some lunch in town and then got back on the ship.

Crystal Symphony - November 9-10, 2006 - Norfolk, VA

Started off this work cruise in the Norfolk Navy Shipyards. Set in drydock a couple days before setting off to Miami to pick up passengers. It was a very, very crazy environment but one I'm glad I experienced.

Norwegian Dawn Cruise - July 15, 2006 - New York City

The return trip past Staten, Liberty, and Ellis Island. Spent rest of the time just trying to get my gear ready to disembark the ship. Had a nice taxi ride through Manhattan but didn't take more pics. Sorry.

Norwegian Dawn Cruise - July 12-13 - Bahamas

The second stop of the cruise was in Nassau, Bahamas. Got to run around the tourist section of Nassau, then Atlantis at night, then a breakfast and visit to a pirate museum the next morning.

Norwegian Dawn Cruise - July 10, 2006 - Bermuda

Our first stop was in Bermuda. Did not have a lot of time to run around but got to see King's Wharf and it's artisan shops, then took a ferry over to Hamilton to hit some shops and bookstores. All in all, probably the highlight of this trip.

Norwegian Dawn Cruise - July 8, 2006 - New York City

Sometimes work takes me fun places. We have a contract with Norwegian Cruise Lines and this trip took me to Bermuda and the Bahamas. Our first day out, leaving the docks on the west side of New York City. Passed the USS Intrepid, the Statue of Liberty, and under the Verrazano Narrow Bridge.

Alaska - June 25, 2006 - Salmon Fishing

Leslie brought me along to her NASPA Regional Conference in Juneau. The host, Tish, got her friends to take all of us out on a salmon fishing trip, as well as doing some whale watching (no good pics of that, sorry). Along with us were Dr. Sherry Mallory and Susan Mancuso from Western Washington University. Sadly, only Sherry got a fish, but it was a good one and we all had a good day.

Day trip to Zion

Zion is only a two hour drive for us and we wanted to see how Mono did on a road trip. So we went up to Utah and took him on the only path that pets are allowed on and then headed for home. It was a good day trip and we all got to get out of Vegas and cool off for a bit.

Mono gets hurt but still can play

Mono ran his head into a rail on our bed and injured his left ear pretty bad. So he unfortunately got to wear the dreaded cone for awhile. He didn't care for it but did get used to it and managed to have fun here and there.

Mono-kun's first few months with us

We got our dog Mono-kun from Best Friends Animal Society in late June. We bought him all kinds of toys and babied him while he took over my old couch. He's a great dog and there will be all kinds of pics with him uploaded fairly regularly.
