A part of the group; about to set sail to the fort island.
Anbu (left) befriended the owner (right) of the boat and even held the rudder.
A unique feature of the janjira trip is that one travels by a sailboat even in this era of motor boats. The sailers are able to harvest the winds to move either from the mainland to the island or vice versa. The forward and reverse paths are slightly different, though (of course, even the boats keep to the left in India) deft maneuvering is needed. In fact, the elder boatsman was training his son. Salila posing (thinking that a girl is behind; however, she quickly covered up her face).
Chief (left) and the pirate (right) - anbu's friend - commandeered the boat :-)
A view of the island fortress from the boat. A returning boat is visilbe on the far right.
Aha, the island that is to be conquered by the sea conquerer!
A section of the raiding party. You are already familar with the thugs in the front row. Sahana (right) and her two colleagues in the rear row.
The chief conducts a roll call at the main entrance (well hidden from prising eyes) of the fort.
Now that everyone is in attendance, a group photo (from inside the gate).
The view of the mainland. The photographer, as usual, is missing in the photo.
Now, the chief joins in.
The chief and his conquered fortess. Notice the sail boats in the sea (left) heading towards the jetty on the mainland.
Formiddable wall. It seems that the fortress built by Siddi merchant (from Africa) was never conquered by the kings of the mainland. Even the great Shivaji did not succeed!
Surveying the fort and the ships.
Salila and Anbu
The 3 musceteers
Sahana . Note the boat that has just now discharged a mass of humanity (climbing the steps hurriedly).
A huge cannon guarding the main entrance (of course located on higher ground - higher potential energy gets converted into higher kinetic energy)
