me in front of the Perfume Palace
The Perfume Palace
"The Juicer", across the lake from my work
dinner at a local Iraqi restaurant (on the base)
one of the shot up old guard towers around here
new line of business for DeWalt?
the "hotel" across the lake from my work trailer
look at the pretty candy! Oh wait, those are urinal cakes...
this was actually foggy, not dusty...
one of the bathrooms in the Al Faw Palace (the bidets are connected any more, tp storage instead)
there you have it...
they just hang out here all day waiting for handouts from us as we cross the bridge to the palace
the tea, at dinner at an Iraqi general's house (sweet!)
the lagoon in the general's "living room"
waiting for dinner to be served...
the wolves are getting anxious...
concert in the park! well, sort of... That's Keri Noble on a tour out here
Al Faw Palace, on a nice day, my trailer is just out of view on the left side...
out on a run one day - watch your step by that bridge railing
the water plant, tons and tons of bottled water...
the bombed bridge to Al Faw Palace
front door to JVB Hotel
my home away from home... (me after a hot day run)
"The Juicer"
that brown conex box is my office...
that's where I work, in that conex box trailer, behind the palace. cables go up to my antennas on the palace roof
the door to my "office" (and boxes/crates for some of my gear)
hard to see, but that's where some plaster crown molding fell off the patio ceiling
nice day!
that's where that plaster fell... there's stuff falling off the building all over the place
very clear skies this day! Deep blue looking straight up
a little history of the palace
the lake outside of my work trailer
the JVB Hotel across the lake from where I work
one of boats Saddam's guests used to use on the lakes
nice sunrise!
out for a run early one morning, awesome sunrise
Iraqi Boy's and Girl's Scouts
going for some local grub on the Iraqi part of the base
the restaurant, looks enticing... doesn't it??
a local beer (non-alcoholic) with dinner
the kitchen
at my change of command, taking over the Det
another Iraqi dinner, at one of the Iraqi general's house
at work in my trailer...
where does all this water come from to fill the man-made lakes?
panorama of my CHU (my room)
boat ramp... if only I had a boat...
looks like one of the places guests would pull up their boats, clean the fresh fish, and BBQ right there...
SDH3 hashers on top of Al Faw Palace
the place really does look like it's falling apart...
I scored a nice chair for my room... must have been special in it's day
cool clouds and sunset this day
thanks Honey!
it gets really nasty and muddy when it rains
what a mess
Superbowl Party - got to have 2 beers!
one down, one to go
my pad, it's a mess... but it's comfy
looking west from the bridge to Al Faw Palace
at the start of the Slayer Scramble (X-Dog race), fun!
it was raining mud...
bit of a dust storm
yep, there's a bowling alley here now...
L2H3 in Baghdad, wearing my other L2H3 shirt
the bat cave
Stephen Colbert (a tile wall at the airfield)
anyone up for some RV camping??
my old ride (Trailblazer)..., now I have a beat up diesel Landcruiser, feels more like a HMMWV
sunset, pretty cool pic
The JVB Hotel
near beer, diet coke, and water...
me on a run, checking out the pool
the pool should open soon, maybe I'll get to use it sometime
Happy Easter!
my CHU (room) a little more pimped out...
dust storm, freaky...
yea! a box from home!
fresh supply of snacks from home!
cheers!
The hotel
IDF protection
nope, not a campfire... street light laying down in a parking lot - is it supposed to be like that?
dusty day
the sun was trying to get through the dust...
but after a little while the dust won (the sun is up there behind all the dust...)
Vita Malt Beverage (not bad for a near beer)
mmmm... cheese
from the top of Al Faw Palace on a clear day
couple of bird eggs outside a bathroom window
I took a trip to Mosul for a few days... next bunch of pics from there
my temporary room in Mosul
think "Mad Max" for some of these pics... :)
pic doesn't do it justice, you should see the mess of wires...
roof top deck!
Ha! It's just a big mud puddle!
"pretty" compared to around Baghdad - some hills, and some green!
more Mad Max...
back at Victory Base Complex now... some rain, that was not muddy!
148.3 F - the display doesn't do well in the heat, but it says 148.3 (out in direct sunlight, leaning against my work trailer)
so... electricity "produces" energy... most of which is "stored" as heat...
