Charlie The Bird
Charlie is a green-winged macaw who lives in Bloomington, IN, and is often seen around town riding a bike with his caretaker, Joe. He often comes pairs up with me when playing tunes, and entertains the crowds that we always draw. Charlie also enjoys hiking in the woods and kayaking on the local lakes. Being well protected by a thick layer of down, Charlie spends hours outside every day, in all temperatures, though he does get fussy when it is too hot.

Pectinatella magnifica, Freshwater Bryozoans
These gelatinous colonies water filtering animals are nearly 500 million years old, and their yearly appearance in Lake Monroe is governed to some degree by the lake water levels. Last year when it was high in the summer, we found no large colonies. This year the lake was at normal pool level, and we found these big colonies.

Frozen Dam Ride
Although the day was gray and the ice slippery, this was a great ride. I started from Moore's Creek ramp and pedaled out to the main body of the lake, and then turned south and rode to the dam. I saw one ice fisherman, but no one else, only some crows.

Frozen Ride to Elkinsville
My bike ride on Lake Monroe and Salt Creek, from Pine Grove to Elkinsville Bridge, about 26 miles roundtrip. I saw 2 humans, 3 coyotes, a hawk, a heron, and a bald eagle in 4 hours on the ice.
