Jamiesons of Scotland - the one and only!
A visit to the edge of the world, Sandness, Westmost coast of Shetland's mainland, and the one and only woollen mill in Scotland which does a l l the wool-processes from scouring (sorting, washing) over dyeing, blending, carding, spinning, knitting, sewing. And - most lovely of all: specialises in using the pure bred Shetland sheeps wool. To my surprise, there are not that many pure bred Shetland sheep anymore on the Isles of Shetland, as the yield of one fleece is not big in weight, and the farmer gets paid per KG! But the yied in pure perfection of fibre is unsurpassable. Hail to Jamieson of Shetland, the one at the western edge, out beyond many miles of bog land wilderness, at a windtossed shore. Softest is the air, though, and softest the wool. Bless you sheepies! (Apologies for some of the pics being blurred; have included them though, thinking they might be educative all the same)
