"Thanks.  Good idea, I could reduce the glare, just haven't need some time to do it nicely."
Jason Morrison
"Ha, that's the main reason I didn't just crop it out.  It's like Dr. Evil is using a laser drill to create a volcano and hold the UN hostage."
Jason Morrison
"Laser blast all the way. Basically this is what the alien invasion war will look like from half dome."
Garen Checkley
"This is brilliant."

"This is fantastic.  The only thing that slows it down is that glare at the bottom, but I suspect you had no control over that."
Joe Auerbach
"Man, I love pinnacles. Good thing I live close."
Jairo Lopez
"Yeah, we don't usually think about the shape of the light coming down from the sky, because the sun is an almost perfect circle. Change the shape of the light, and shadows get much more interesting :)"
Jason Morrison
"Now I seemed to understand what are those shadows. How amazing."
Marcia Zeng
"Here's the sun, during a test this morning. Later I'll post pictures with the eclipse."
Jason Morrison
"Cut a viewing are at the bottom. I put a piece of while posterboard in to make the image a little nicer.

You'll need to line up the box with the angle of the sun. It takes a little fiddling, but you should be able to get a little round circle of light in the bottom of the box. I used a tripod to hold the box in place."
Jason Morrison
"Also - cover any open gaps with tape, so we don't let extra light in."
Jason Morrison
"Cover the hole at the top with foil, and put a tiny pinprick in it."
Jason Morrison
"Close up the box, and cut a squarish hole in the top. Athena shows how the sunlight will shine through with her flashlight."
Jason Morrison
"Here's what the image will look like during the eclipse as the moon moves between us and the sun."
Jason Morrison
"The top of the box will have a tiny pinhole, to let in sunlight, while the bottom will have a viewing area. We don't look through the pinhole - never look directly at the sun during an eclipse - we look at image at the other end."
