Kille Raigad

The fort's ruins today consist of the queen's quarters, consisting of six chambers, with each chamber having its own private restroom with plumbing. The main palace was constructed using wood, of which only the bases of pillars remain. Ruins of three watch towers can be seen directly in front of the palace grounds overlooking an artificial lake called Ganga Sagar Lake created next to the fort. It also has a view of the execution point called Takmak Tok, a cliff from which the sentenced prisoners were thrown to their death. This areas is now fenced off.[1]. The fort also has ruins of the market, and it has such structure that one can shop even while riding or sitting astride a horse.

Ganesh & Tulja Leni

The Lenyadri or Ganesh lena group is the main group and located 4 km north of Junnar across the river Kukdi. The hill is variously known as Sulaiman Pahar and Ganesh Pahar, the latter due to the location of a Ganesha shrine, the latter due to the location of a Ganesha shrine in one of the caves, which is a later addition. The sthalapurana calls it as Lenyadri and an ancient inscription gives the name of this hill as Kapichita (Kapichitta). There are nearly 40 caves in this group of which the main group of 30 caves are located in a line and stretch from east to west, all facing south and overlooking the valley of Kukdi river. (a) Tuljalena located on the Tuljabai hill, 5 km west of Junnar. This is the smallest group here at Junnar with 11 caves datable from circa 1st century B.C. to 1st century A.D. These caves are situated together in a row and face roughly east-north east.

Gol Ghumat

Gol Ghumat: was Build in 1546 by Mughal, Near the Junnar hamlet Pune district. Junnar is a city with thousands of years of history in the Pune district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a taluka headquarter. Situated at the base of the Sahyadri Mountains, it is around 100 km east of Mumbai and 94 km north of Pune. Also located near this city is Shivneri Fort, birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje, Gol Ghumat situated about 3 km from Junnar bus stand, at Aagar Vittalwadi, Hapusbaug. This is one of the important historical Landmark in the region.This tomb was a great architecture example of Mughal era.

Shinde Chattri

Shinde Chatri Located in Wanowrie, Shinde Chatri houses the Samadhi of Shrimant Mahadji Shinde. He was a man of great deeds. The Shiv mandir in the temple campus was built by Shrimant Mahadji in 1794. He passed away the same year and his last rites were performed here. The temple campus including the Samadhi was later built by built by Madhavrao Sindhia in 1965. The temple has beautiful architectural designs and remains unaffected by the passage of years.It is maintained by Sindhia Devasthan Trust, Gwalior.

Bajja & Karla Caves

Bhaja Caves are a group of 18 rock-cut caves dating back to 200 BC located at Karli, near Lonavala, Maharashtra. The location of Bhaja caves is not far from location of Karla Caves and these are stylistically similar to the Karla Caves. These caves are on a major trade route of the past that ran from the Arabian Sea eastward into the Deccan region, the division between North India and South India. Karla Caves is a complex of ancient Buddhist Indian rock-cut architecture cave shrines built over the period of 3rd to 2nd century B.C. Even though the caves were constructed over a period of time and the oldest one is believed to date back to 160 BC.

Vijay Durga

Vijaydurg, which literally means "Victory Fort", is a fort built by Shivaji in the Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra, India. The main purpose of building this fort was to defend the shoreline on the Arabian Sea. This fort is a complex in itself, having a commander's house and three lines of defences. The three fortified walls stand proud and tested by time and the unforgiving sea. The Vijaydurg fort was built by Shivaji at the mouth of Vaghotane creek. The fort is on a peninsula into the sea and is spread in an area of six hectares. The fort has 27 bastions and is still in a very good condition. The huge stones used for the fort walls and the strength of the walls are still visible, and it is quite interesting to think how these huge walls were built in the open sea.

Vengurla

Vengurla( Marathi वेंगुर्ला ) is a town south of Mumbai (Bombay) and Ratnagiri 522 and 200 km respectively on the Konkan coast in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by a semicircular range of hills with lush green foliage mainly of cashew, mango, coconut, and different kinds of berry trees. The hills of Dabholi, Tulas, and Mochemad respectively lie in the north, the east, and the south of Vengurla, while the Arabian Sea is located on its west. The town has a rich cultural heritage. Vengurla Tehsil(taluka) has some beautiful temples including those of Shri Sateri, Shri Rameshwar, Shri Navadurga at Kanyale Redi, Shri Mauli at Redi and Shiroda, Shri Vetoba at Aaravali, Shri Ganesh at Redi and Shri Ravalnath.

Sindudurga Fort

Over 4000 mounds of iron were used in the casting and foundation stones were firmly laid down in lead. The construction was started on November 25, 1664. Built over a period of three years, the sea fort is spread over 48 acres (190,000 m2) with a two-mile (3 km) long rampart, and walls that are 30 feet (9.1 m) high and 12 feet (3.7 m) thick. The massive walls were designed to serve as a deterrent to approaching enemies and to the waves and tides of the Arabian Sea. The main entrance is concealed in such a way that no one can pinpoint it from outside.

Malvan (Marathi: मालवण) (also written as Malwan) is a town in Sindhudurg District - southernmost district of Maharashtra. This culturally and historically important town is a Taluka place in Sindhudurg District. Malvan taluka consists of villages like Aangnechi wadi,Achra, Khalchi Devli,Jamdul, Juva, Pankhol and Sarjekot. Malvan is town of historic tradition. It is known for Sindhudurg Fort, its delicious Malvani cuisine (Rice & fishcurry). It is known for Malvani Hapus(Alphonso) mango. It is also known for sweets such as Malvani Khaja (Sweet made from besan flour & coated jaggery) & woh ! variety of Malvani Ladoos.

Malhargad

Malhargad is a hill fort in western India near Sasvad, 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Pune. It is also known as Sonori Fort due to the village of Sonori being situated at its base. The fort was named for the god Malhari and was the last fort built by the Marathas, about 1775.[1] The Sahyadri range to the west of Pune in Velha taluka is split, and the forts Rajgad and Torna are on one branch while Forts Sinhagad, Purandar, Vajragad and Malhargad on the other. This range is known as the Bhuleshwar range which is spread along the East-West direction. The fort is believed to be built to keep watch on ‘Dive’ ghat along the Pune-Saswad route. The fort was built during the period of 1757 to 1760. The fort was built by Bhivrâo Yashvant and Krishnaji Mâdhavrâo Pânsê, a Peshwa Sardar,[1] who was the chief in charge of Tofkhana of the Peshwas.

Hadsar

Sahyadri range has plethora of forts. Taluka Junnar, belonging to the Pune district is no exception. Hadsar is a beautiful fort located in this region. Starting from Naneghat, one can combine Jeevdhan, Shivneri, Lenyadri, Hadsar and Harishchandragad into a six-day trek. Fort Hadsar, also known as Parvatgad, was constructed during the Satvaahanas and was heavily inhabited during that period. It is located on the outskirts of Ahmednagar (known commonly as Nagar) to control the trade route passing through Naneghat. Documentary evidences show that Hadsar was one of the forts exchanged in the 1637 treaty between Shahaji Raje and the Mughals. In 1818 the British forces conquered Junnar and the forts in this region. Like most other cases, main features of this fort were demolished by the british during their attack and later.
