The door opens towards the bow. The idea was to leave the path towards the stern and companionway unimpeded.
The 'V' notch in the inboard section of the caprail allows the hinges to be flush mounted to the bulwark.

During the summer of 1967 and 1968, a 19 year old Key Stage crewed on Titan as it hauled lumber barges from Coos Bay, Oregon to both Long Beach and San Diego, Ca. Now Key's LNVT (#31) is named Titan.
If the date on this card is correct, hull#31 has been named Sir Teady since January 1987.
